Apple pie, jewel tones and like

- A friend's daughter loves experimenting with different apple pie recipes - this one was as good as it looks. :)

- Book club meeting at a home I have never visited before. I mention to Peggy that the jewel-toned colors of her walls seem very Early American to me. She smiles and says they were indeed inspired by a family trip to Williamsburg, Virginia.

- We read the Anne Lamott book of our choice and I decided to read "Traveling Mercies" - her initial collection of essays. In one of them her young son says he is weary of her telling him she loves him so much. What would he rather hear? I like you. So that's what she says from then on as she tucks him in bed.

I've read "Traveling Mercies." I'll tell you what, if my son had said that, he would simply have had to suffer. I wouldn't have stopped saying "I love you." I say it all the time to my dog and he never complains! ;-)

Apple pies all around
And this one was
nice and brown
Her walls seem to glow
At a book club meeting
Yes Early American I was told
No more I love you she was told
So now when tucked in bed
A I like you is how it now goes

I read "Blue Shoe" and didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, and I've yet to read "Traveling Mercies." I'm still in the middle of "The Girl Who Played With Fire," and was given the third book in the series by a friend at breakfast yesterday...so I have a lot of reading to do!

That apple pie looks delicious, btw...even at this ungodly hour. :)

Enjoy your week, my friend!!

That crust looks amazing, can only imagine how out-of-this-world that pie pasted.

Sometimes liking a person is more of a challenge than loving them. :)

How fun to be in a book club. You meet once a month?

Lynn~ About how much does that pie weigh? It looks huge!

Have to smile about your last comment. After having raised a headstrong son there are times when a son doesn't want to hear anything form his Mother!
:)
lg Have a great and a good day Lynn!

I took particular note of that vignette in the book because it focuses on something I've thought about before - can you love someone without liking them? Her essays show a certain amount of conflict with her son and I supposed he wondered at some point if she liked him.

Yes - I am the same as you though - I say 'I love you' quite a lot and feel our loved ones can never hear it too often.

A perfect wrap-up poem! Thanks for that! :)

The pie was delicious. :)

I'm behind in my reading, too. I am so looking forward to reading those Stieg Larson books - I plan to get started soon.

You have quite a lot going on your life, so I admire you for finding time for that at all.

"Sometimes liking a person is more of a challenge than loving them." True in some cases, for sure.

The pie was yummy. :)

The photo makes it look bigger than it is, I think. So good.

Hope you are having a great morning!

That pie looks so flakey good!

I'm smiling at Anne Lamott's son's reaction to her effusiveness. lol!

Oh, I love Anne Lamott's work! I've never gotten around to reading Traveling Mercies. This may just be the gentle reminder needed to get me to do so. ;)

I hope you had your piece of pie a la mode. It looks gorgeous!

My sister lured us to her home yesterday with just such a pie. It was worth the travel.

I need to join a book club but I'm pretty sure I'm among a few people in our community who know how to read.

"Too bad" was my response to my children when they told me how I bugged them and I continued in my "I love yous" and anything else I felt like saying.

That apple pie does look good! A little more sugar on the top and it would be perfection.

I love apple pie and that one definitely looks GOOD:~)

I am have been wanting to join a book club in my neighborhood. Reading your post has made me put on this week's "to do" list!!!

I loved Fireblossom's reply to saying "I love you." I tend to agree, my kids just would have stuck. In response to her comment about the dog, my dog doesn't complain, but the cat does!

That was part of her essay about Ash Wednesday. Traveling Mercies is a great read, I think. :)

No ice cream was offered and just as well, because I am supposed to be off sugar for now. I couldn't resist a slice of pie though and it was worth it. :)

I'll be interested to hear what you think of the book.

Granny Annie -

I laughed out loud at work with I read your comment about the community you live in. How funny - I hope that's not really true. :)

Joe -

Yes - maybe.
