November rose, thank you and fun book

- My neighbor's roses, blooming in November - surely the last of them.

- Printing a thank you poster for the mission that will go to a little girl who collected more than 3,000 shoes for the homeless.

- Reading a review of what must be a hilarious childrens' book, "A Pig Parade is a Terrible Idea" by Michael Ian Black and illustrated by Kevin Hawkes. Operating on the premise that everyone looks good in a majorette outfit, loves marching bands and great floats, the book states that you would be wrong. Pigs don't march, they shuffle. They prefer sad country ballads and the only floats pigs like are root beer floats. Must get for niece.

I love majorettes. When I was young, I wanted to learn to twirl a baton; it seemed like the coolest of all possible pursuits to me, but i was fumble-fingered.

I STILL think majorettes are completely cool. Much more so than poets or mail ladies.

And...I'm first again! Who loves ya, Lynn? :-)

A rose a poster and pigs I see
Now this will be a hard one for me
I’ll made it rhyme this poem I wrote
About parades and root beer floats
Of a child and three thousand shoes
And still add in your neighbor’s roses to
Okay books, missions and Novembers to late
To get in my majorette outfit for a shuffling date

ouhhh. I love the title of that book Lynn. I think I need to read it! I am in the process of writing a children's book (of my own) that I've had in my mind for a little over one year. Finally started it and have 'vowed' to work on it daily. Maybe you could hold me accountable??! I'm really great at starting things but sometimes not so terribly hot on finishing them. ....I seem to always have more mundane things (like HOUSEWORK) to do instead of write I'm afraid. Tyranny of the urgent attacks me!!!:(

Too cute!

That rose is gorgeous! I love the ones that linger and refuse to acknowledge the change of season.

Kudos to that little girl - imagine what she'll accomplish in her lifetime.

What? No trotting, high-stepping pigs? I'm disappointed :(

I don't know - I think poets and mail ladies are pretty cool, too.

And you do! Thank you for coming by my blog so faithfully early in the morning, my friend.

Ellis -

You did an excellent job at this one! And getting in the majorette outfit should be fun. :)

I will ask you now and then how that book is going. How about that? Make a good lap read, would you?

Talon -

Isn't that rose beautiful? I walk by it every day and decided it needing photographing.

And the review mentioned that mostly we are used to illustrations of cute curly-tailed pigs, but these illustrations make our porcine friends look exactly as they do. Hence the awkwardness in trying to wear a majorette's outfit. :)

I'm torn. On one hand that book sounds fantastic, but on the other hand I want to jump to the defence of pigs. I bet they would make a great parade!

What lovely roses to finish off the season! I saw a few fat 'Peace' roses near the town hall yesterday and was amazed at their capacity to weather the cool nights lately. Even my tough-guy morning glory vines have now succumbed to frost.

That little girl deserves a thank-you for sure. 3,000 shoes. Wow! (I feel like a total slacker now.)

Oh, and mail ladies *are* cool. I agree. But pigs with batons might be even cooler. ;)

I used to read a book about pigs to my kids at night and whenever we got to the page that said "Piggy Trotter!" they would giggle with delight.

Beautiful rose.

A very cool thing that the little girl wants to do for the homeless.

Flowers....any flower during this time of year, especially in New England, that can still bloom is a very cheerful thing indeed.

I'll try to remember that about shuffling pigs ;)

What do cats do?

Beautiful rose.

Wonderful project to collect shoes.

Love the sound of the pig book. I do agree with Riot Kitty on "what about cats?". I really can't imagine a cat parade being a very good idea either. LOL

Pig books sounds right up my alley! We have books about pigs with pancakes and pigs on trains, but no pig majorettes yet.

Nice rose!

Ah - but would they want to? :) The review says that it shows pigs looking just as they do rather than the cute curly tailed drawings we are used to seeing.

Meredith -

The rose was still glorious when I passed it on the way in today.

And I like the thought of a pig with a baton, too. :)

Joe -

Isn't it lovely - reading to kids? I'm glad you did that with yours.

G -

I thought so, too.

Riot Kitty -

I think cats sneak! :)

Granny Annie -

The term "it's like herding cats" comes to mind. :)

Jannie -

Let me know if you get it.

What a nice award for that little girl! Great project for one so young to do!
Sounds like a fun book- too bad I have all boys to buy for!

Boys don't like books? Maybe yours are too old for this one.
