- A trumpet vine that my client rooted from a clipping frames her front porch entrance. She quietly motions me over to the side so that I can look up and see a robin sitting in her nest.
- She cuts a clipping for me in case I would like to start my own vine at home. So pretty in my kitchen.- This morning discovering that sweet little Carolina wrens must be building a nest in the hanging fern beside my front door. Before I stand on the step stool to water it, I give the fern a little turn and Mama Wren flies out to a nearby branch to watch.

Wrens are the funniest of birds. They love to be close to your door. In hanging ferns or door wreaths. Then they are upset when you want to enter or leave your home. :)
The problem with bird's nests is the mess and noise!

Birds build nests every time I put ferns on the porch or hand a silk wreath beside the door. One year I had babies in the nest on the wreath, and they were sweet to watch, but the mother wouldn't let anyone come onto our front porch without flying at them and squawking.
The vine is gorgeous!

The wrens clearly knew how to find the best address in their area, with the nicest landlord. :)

I know - they've done this before in another hanging plant right there. And on the back porch once, I had hung a wall planter right beside the back door once and plopped a silk plant in it (company was coming) - they immediately started building there. I would duck down when I went out there so they wouldn't be disturbed. They burrowed right under the silk part and built a beautiful nest - I still have it.

Birdies and flowers! What could be better? We don't have any flowers at my latitude yet, but there is a dove who roosts in the tree outside my window. This morning s/he had his/her feathers all fluffed up because it was cold and damp. Poor dovey!

Those are very similar to the trumpet flowers I have in the side yard, but mine are just orange, not due to bloom for 2 more months or so. Leaves would help, too!
I wonder if your birds are that far ahead- I've been hearing more calls, but seen no nest building. I hope you get to see some baby birds!

I hope so, too - the last time they nested in my hanging plant, they left during a weekend I was gone. Which was more often than not two years ago...
