Midnight Train, best concert and most favorite

Midnight Train to Georgia featuring Emmylou Harris, Luscious Jackson, the Indigo Girls and Rebekah

- This is one of my favorite songs, sung originally by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Emmylou Harris does a fabulous job singing it here with Luscious Jackson (loved their music and that name), the Indigo Girls (local girls!) and Rebekah (not previously familiar with her, but love her voice). Posted originally on 365 Days of Emmylou Harris (a blog discovered by Fireblossom) - they post a video of Emmylou singing most days. The words don't sync up with the video exactly right, but still good.

- I've seen Emmylou Harris in concert twice, the most memorable time was at the "Down from the Mountain" tour in Manassas, Virgina - an all day concert featuring artists who contributed music to the film, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. She sang with Alison Krause - another favorite artist. Bluegrass music all day - can't beat it. :)

- My absolute favorite concert of all time was about 10 years ago at Chastain Park in Atlanta - Crosby, Stills and Nash. An absolute perfect evening and I won the tickets in a drawing at work (which made it all the better.) I'll never forget when they sang another favorite song "Teach your Children" and stopped singing to just let the audience sing this part:

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

Oh - I cried during that. :)

I hope you will share your favorite concerts here! And that there will be music, love and laughter in your weekend (and all the time.)

Oh I've been to so many concerts over the years but really couldn't pick a favourite. I can think a few I didn't enjoy though! :D

Have a wonderful weekend Lynn!

Emmylou!!! :-)

The best concert I ever saw was a jazz concert when I was in college. They had all different performers, but the one I liked best was a big band that played swing music. They were great!

My second favorite was seeing Sophie B. Hawkins. So much energy! My arms would fall off from playing the drums that long. Plus, it's the only concert I've been to where the women in the audience were openly and loudly lustful for a female performer on stage!

I've been to about a dozen concerts in my lifetime and like Joe, I can't pick a favorite.

Matter of fact, I've been to so few in my lifetime, I can rattle off who I've seen.

AC/DC
Jethro Tull
Wang Chung
Billy Idol
Robert Palmer
The Grass Roots (local bluegrass band)
Atwater & Donnelly
Weird Al
David Hasselhoff (please don't ask about that one)

Hey Lynn! We were just talking about Alison Krause last eve...we are looking into tickets for Merlefest (in Wilkesboro, N.C.) at the end if April. It is rumored Alison might show up there. Its a great yearly venue here at the foot of the High Country loaded with Bluegrass pickers and bands.
I'll let you know about it.
lg!

One of my (all time) favorite concerts was Harry Chapin singing Cat's in the Cradle in Milwaukee in about the early 08's (or late 70's; he died in 81.:-() I heard Chapin sing this song twice, live. That was great and truly memorable. Also- Billie Joel on piano coming out for 4 encores (in Milwaukee, too) at about the same time period. Wow.

Correction: early 80's.
My bad.

a song of the heart
to say with or without
no one should have to chose

So many great concerts through the years, but my favorite was Elton John and boz scaggs in the late 70's (yeah, I'm that old) with my brother and then boyfriend (now hubby) - just a fabulous day from beginning to end.

Nice trip down memory lane. Best concert ever? I'm going with Pink Floyd's Wall concert. Yeah, I'm that kind of girl.

Joe -

I've been to a lot myself, but not lately. I am going to see the musical Hair in May. :)

I hope you have a great weekend, too.

I know - we love our Emmylou. And I love Big Band music, too. I took my mom and dad to see the Glen Miller Orchestra in 2004 - they loved it and I did, too. :)

I have heard of Sophie, but haven't listened to any of her music. I'll check it out.

G -

So it's not the rock band The Grass Roots? I saw them when they were a bit past their prime - they sang their hit "Midnight Confession."

Oh yeah - David Hasselhoff? Seriously?

I almost went to Merlefest once - my sister and her husband live in the Shenandoah Valley and when I was visiting once we made plans to go to that, but it fell through.

Harry Chapin - what a great concert that was, I'll bet. And Billy Joel - I haven't seen him, but I did see that musical with his songs - Movin' Out.

True - no one should have to choose!

You know - Elton lives around the corner from my work place. There's a whole six degrees of separation thing with him - sightings and vendor / suppliers to his apartment. I'd love to see him in concert - I'll bet that was lovely.

hg -

Wow - I'll bet that was a great concert! I saw that at a midnight movie once.

CS&N, does not get any better for singing and songs. Never saw them.

I liked John Denver, Doctor Hook & The Medicine Show, and Beatlemania. Oh and Styx. I have only seen those 4 concerts, tho. :) But I loved 'em all!

I think I only saw 4. Not too much of a concert goer, really.

May the violins of love and beauty follow you now and always, my dear!

xoxoxo

I love Luscious Jackson! No one I know has heard of them. Brownie points for you.

I haven't seen too many concerts, but I know I have not had a profound moment such as yours. I saw the Pussy Cat Dolls, and other than learning a few pole dancing moves, I can't say it was terribly enlightening :)

Thanks for the EmmyLou blog link to check out.
I like progressive BlueGrass. I have cassette recordings of "Raw Honey" who was a local group from 30 years ago. I used to go to festivals.
I used to follow The Bruce Marshall Band all over New England for live Music (They let me in free). Saw BB King, Jeff Healy, n Charlie Daniels when they openned or shared stage.
My fave concert was Paul McCartney- Really like Beatles tunes. Saw Beatlemania in the '80s.

Wish I didn't have to work every week-end- Have a good one!

What a beautiful version of this song. I had never heard it before...and what a voice on that woman!

Great song--I wish I'd had time to visit Manassas, VA when we drove by this week--the first battle of "Bull Run" will be 150 years ago this June

I have never been a concert goer but I did absolutely love Reba in concert when I attended with my daughter shortly after she started college. It was a memorable event because of Reba McIntire and because It was my last such outing with my grown up daughter.

I do love Emmylou Harris and Alison Krause and all of Bluegrass.

The violins of love and beauty - I like that, my friend.

xo

Riot Kitty -

I thought they were great - I like that song Naked Eye. :) I like having brownie points!

Sandra -

I have always secretly wanted to learn pole dancing moves - seems like great exercise. I guess the secret's out now. :)

Snaggle -

It was cool seeing Sir Paul, I'll bet. I saw George Harrison in concert once. It was fabulous. My sister actually saw The Beatles in concert - something she doesn't brag about nearly enough.

Ily -

I love it and keep coming back to listen to it again.

Sage -

A wonderful venue for a concert, that was. I enjoy the Civil War battlegrounds, too.

Granny Annie -

A fellow bluegrass fan. I actually saw Reba in concert, too - my sis got me a ticket and I went with she and her girls.

I need more bluegrass music in my life. It's not something I grew up with, but I always enjoy it when I hear it by chance.

The first time that I saw the Rolling Stones was really memorable for me because I took my mom. Seeing Mick and Keith was like a dream come true for her.

Sparkling Red -

I didn't grow up with Bluegrass either - but I sort of migrated into it from being a fan of Emmylou Harris and her type of music.

Mama Zen -

I'll bet that was a great concert - I love the Stones, too.
