Sparkling morning, staff favorite and blame it on the rain

- Saturday morning sparkled.  An early morning walk with friends, coffee and catalogs on the back porch (view is from there.)  Early voting, which took ten minutes and not three hours like four years ago, and the library to pick up reserved books.  Perfect.

- The November issue of Cooking Light is a celebration of the magazine's first 25 years and they included their most celebrated recipes.  And out of all of them the staff loved this one the most:  "Rich Chicken Soup with Fresh Noodles."  It was delish and perfect for a windy, drizzly Sunday night.  Here's the recipe.  And I only had to go to two stores (Publix and Whole Foods) to get all the ingredients.  :)  I never did find Fresh Poultry Mix Herbs, so made a bouquet of sage, tarragon and thyme.

- Earlier on Sunday morning, after my walk, I stopped by Publix for the first of the soup ingredients.  A woman was putting out these small fruit pies, still warm from the oven.  "Did you bake that?"  "I bake these every day," she said dryly, and turned away, her manner telling me she was tired and took no joy from her job.  I thought the least I could do was buy one, and chose apple.  And had some when I got home, before showering for church.  Yum.

Thinking of all my friends in the northeastern US and beyond, who are affected by Hurricane Sandy.  Be safe!

Hey Lynn!
Thanks for stopping by. I never take it for granted. The house in the shot is kitty corner to the left from where we live. It is one of those chalets that literally 'hangs' off of the mountain. We live in a ranch on the top of the knoll with side yardage and such. I seldom photograph it for the blog except maybe partially (probably for privacy's sake, I guess.) Just superstitious, I guess, too. We have an efficiency apartment attached to the garage. If you are ever up this way (Blowing Rock, too, as we are right next door to it...) please consider visiting. We would be honored to have you. It's my husband, my son (who attends ASU and is here intermittently) and my 16 y/o daughter who live here, at about 4000 feet.
:-)
lg! (At least consider that you have someone that you can stop and visit!)

Come on over! :)

Sandie -

Yes - I've looked at those little pies before, but resisted until now. It was still warm! She didn't do a good job selling it, but at least I learned they are baked on the premises.

I understand - same reason I don't put my last time in blogs or the last names of family and friends. It's not a trust issue with our fellow bloggers / friends, but more the people you don't know who are coming by.

That is so wonderful of you to invite me - I may take you up on that sometime. There's a Scottish games at Grandfather mountain every year and it's the lodging that keeps me from going - you have to schedule far in advance or you end up with the most expensive lodging around there. We'll keep in touch about that.

There's nothing like early voting and homemade soup. Yours looks delicious, and so does that pie!

The morning, the soup and the pie all look delightful. I have never looked back since I discovered the joy of voting early. In and out in ten minutes maximum. Bliss.
And I join you in my good wishes for all those in Sandy's path.

Oh my, does that soup ever look good!

Riot Kitty -

Ha! I wonder who decided to use "rich" as a word to describe food anyway?

Scarlet -

I love having a pot of something delicious to stir on Sunday.

So sorry to hear about your father-in-law's passing and that the storm is keeping you from going up.

Shionge -

I love pie, too. Also savory pies - I'm thinking of trying chicken pie next.

The Elephant's Child -

Early voting was something new in 2008 - here in the States, or my state anyway. I think they learned from last time. In and out. It was awesome.

I had some for dinner last night and it was even better heated up. It had thickened a bit, too. Yum.

Lovely view from your porch and lovely weekend! Today is SO much a soup day- I've got to try this delicious looking recipe.
That poor Publix baker. Doesn't she know baking should be a joy? I guess it's an entirely different story when you have to do it by the dozens.

Lovely photos! I would like to eat those trees, and take a walk through that pie.

No, wait...

I'm back online n all is OK here- Thanks! Beautiful porch view. I was right, most leaves are gone here now in the Storm.
I love Chix soup- looks yummy. Pie- I have apples, just need time to do it- maybe later today. May do littler ones than that one. Poor baker lady, it is tiring work- I know!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The biggest challenge was finding the fresh lasagna sheets, but they had them at Whole Foods. A challenge to find them even there - I had to get help. :) Let me know if you make it. It's so good and even better the next day.

Sparkling Red -

Ha! You made me laugh out loud. :)

Good - you've got power. I worried about you.

Yes - I felt bad for her - I know from your tales how hard standing on your feet can be.
