Proof of the cold, best jacket ever and at home

- And it was about 5 degrees when I got up yesterday morning.  This is the dusty car dashboard showing the temperature when I was arriving at work.  What makes this a good thing?  Nothing really - it's just a novelty for the state of Georgia.  :)

- I bought this down coat in December 2010 for my first trip to New York City and have never needed to wear it since.  It sure is coming in handy right now, even though it's just 16 degrees this morning (which seems so much better.)

- The fern has been inside for a couple of weeks now, since the temperature has been dropping during the night below 32 degrees (its usual home being the back porch.)  I crack myself up with my fern photo shoot at 5:45am, but it does give me an opportunity to notice things pictured that I am so accustomed to seeing, that I don't really see them anymore.  The two throw pillows on the couch came from my mom and dad's house - I tossed them there when I brought them home and there they have stayed.  And the blue vase in the bookcase was one of their wedding gifts in 1948.  I've blogged about that clock before - neither sister wanted it, but I did, and I think it makes a beautiful addition to my bookcase.

Thanks for all the stay warm wishes from Monday - I did just that, as you can see.  The really good things represented here are:  Thankfulness for employment, multiple coats to keep me warm and a warm, safe home.  Hope you are having a great day!

Well it's quite a mild day here in the UK, with no rain! So you rarely wear a coat? Actually I don't own one, but I do wear thick jackets during the winter.

I hope you stay cosy and warm.

Joe -

I do wear a coat, but one that is way lighter than that one.

I'm doing great - it's just been a festival of talking about the cold here in Atlanta, so that's why I posted about it. :)

I know Lynn! It has been cold! We are supposed to begin warming up today and it will be welcome! You call that a down coat? :-)Was looking for the blue vase but can't see it well. I like the way you described 'not' seeing things there. I do that too. Familiarity makes us blind.

I thought of you last night as the weather highlighted your area. We are all having such unusual cold. Normally I run in and out of places without my coat but I've got out the old parka for all of this.

Love your cozy corner, ferns, pillows, clock and all. It delights my heart.

Yes - it's warming up to the 40s today here - yay!

It's what I call my down coat - it has down in it, but maybe it's a jacket. :)

Click to enlarge and you'll maybe spot the blue Roseville pottery vase.

Granny Annie -

Thank you - there was a "we're in it together" feel to the city yesterday. I went to Whole Foods after volunteer work last night and it was deserted at 7pm.

I like to delight your heart! Thank you.

Apart from when I was in Antarctica I haven't worn a coat in well over twenty years. I am sure there are still some here...
Love your comfortable nook - and the fern looks really good inside for its winter vacation.

Your fern is amazing! And it's wonderful to have the exact right gear for the weather. The right jacket can make being outside almost nice in arctic temps. :)

Lynn,
Find me below on some days. I (just) started another blog as I felt the subject on this one is a separate topic.
Thanks! :-)
lg! (P.S. Just teasing about your coat!!)

Elephant's Child -

I've been reading about the heat there all all the AU blogs - so no coat for you ever, like you say.

I'll have to tell the fern it is on vacation. I like that. And in April - it's back to the business of being beautiful, hanging by my front door. :)

Talon -

Yes - so true. Almost nice. :)

I'll come by later.

Snaggle -

And you have to deal with this cold all the time in the winter - I'm so glad you are managing to stay warm.

Joanne -

It is crazy.

We've hit double digit teens earlier in the week and now we're on pace to hit the hi 40's by the weekend.

Go figure, eh?

EEp! You know it's bad when 16 seems warm. However, my dad in MN said -3 was warm, compared to what they have had.

I just can't imagine how cold it is up your way, Lynn. From the reports I'm seeing here on TV it's been horrendous up your way.

Stay warm...and take good care.

How is it that just anybody can write a blog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything incredibly impressive more like youve painted a pretty picture over an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here. But do you really think that you can get away with adding some pretty pictures and not really say anything?

Hi Lynn .. I know it's been very cold your side of the pond - and as you recognise what's good in life .. a warm coat, a car to drive in, a happy fern, fond memories of Mum and Dad, and a wonderful coat when needed then the place where home is = home!

Cheers Hilary
