Gracious, entertaining and glorious

- The Alling-Bethune-Combs-Humphrey house, circa 1895, on South Liberty Street, Milledgeville, Georgia. A favorite in the historic district of Milledgeville, for its twisty-turny rooms that include a sleeping porch on the second floor. It was the gracious home of my beloved kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Combs, and now belongs to her daughter.

- Driving from Milledgeville to Atlanta early on Sunday morning and talking to my sister Brenda by cellphone as she is driving to Milledgeville from the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. She thanks me for helping her stay awake for two hours, I thank her for the most entertaining two-hour drive ever.

- Singing with the church choir in the "women's ensemble" - 39 voices in all in honor of Fathers Day - and later this lovely email message from music director Ed, "In a word 'Glorious'! Your music this morning was heavenly. As I was playing for you, I thought 'This is like playing for a choir of angels.' And then I realized that, in truth, I was!"

Each one of these better than the last!

And you must have a very good cell phone minutes plan? :)

Good morning Ms. Funster! Thank you! And I have 5000 weekend minutes. I go through the "anytime" minutes like water, but always have tons of weekend minutes.

I hope you had a good weekend!

What a gorgeous house!

Mama Zen - thank you. Something I've always meant to do is photograph some of the historic homes and buildings of my home town. I'm trying to do it without being intrusive to the owners. And I'm starting with the ones that I have some connection with, I guess. No real plan in place. I take this beautiful route when I go to the post office to pick up mom and dad's mail for them.

Now that sounds like a fun drive and what did we do before cellphones?

The house is lovely. Old houses have so much character.

Sounds like you all raised the roof, Lynn!

Talon - the drive went by before I knew it. My sis and I don't take the time for long chats like that very often. I called her around 1:00 pm for an update - she was in North Caroline, a state that takes a long time to get through.

I imagine that sleeping on that screened porch would be lovely on a cool night. Can't you just see a horse-drawn carriage pulling up next to the house?

We raised the roof. I lent my humble voice next to the regular sopranos next to me. It is not the Presbyterian way to clap during church, but we got a smattering of applause after the benediction song (we jokingly call ourselves the "frozen chosen") :)

I used to do that a few years ago, call a couple of friends up who live in the Midwest and the South, and kill an hour or two just chatting. Still do to a certain extent.

Except I take incredibly long walks when I do it. Much safer and occasionally it gives me new topics of conversation.

Neat old house- I used to have alot of huge home dreams. My neighbors When a kid had some grand homes in Metro-West of Boston. Many were victorian.
Another had 11 room just in the basement! I got lost in there on the first floor the first visit...

This home is 100 or so, as was the place i grew up.

It's against the law to talk on the phone n drive in this state now!

Hey G -

We use those hands-free devices to chat while driving. No worries. Georgia has not banned talking by cellphone while driving yet, but I keep hearing that is pending legislation.

Hi Snaggle Tooth -

Welcome! I love the architecture of the old homes in my home town and I am photographing them when I am there - some of which wind up here.
