Container garden, blue and perseverance

- Friend Susan's container garden, much admired for its unfussy arrangement of waning winter flowers and newly potted spring color.

- She collects blue bottles and we all bring them to her. Elsewhere on the property is a "bottle tree," a tree with multiple blue bottles hanging from it.

- A book discussion of "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett, a first book that was published finally after Ms. Stockett received about 60 rejection letters. I admire the perseverance of this young writer in getting her story told.

Oh my gosh @ the blue bottles. I just wrote about spirit jars in the poem I posted last night. Synchoronicity.

The container garden is wonderful!

I wish the stuff I'd just planted into pots looked like these!

Love the blue.

Who does not crave cobalt blue. I collect it and then, instead of using it myself, I end up selling it or giving it away.

THE HELP best book out in a long time.

Good things happened,
Glad to hear that!

60 rejections! And I get still get upset and discouraged over just a few. I'll try and emulate Ms. Stockett's tough resolve. And now you've made me want to check out the book!

Lovely container arrangement. Have a nice Tuesday, Lynn. :)

It all looks so pretty! My daughter loves that same blue and has quite a few pieces (makes for easy gift giving! lol) The bottle tree must be interesting when the light hits it! I wish it was time to plant our containers, but have to be patient until the end of the month.

"The Help" is on my purchase list next time I'm at the bookstore. I've got some great summer reading ahead of me.

Fireblossom -

I LOVED your poem. And I'll have to ask Susan if the blue bottles collect spirits. Great synchronicity.

Joe -

Me, too. I always think I overthink planting. The blue evokes the sky.

Granny Annie -

The Help was such an excellent read. Or listen - in my case. Someone loaned me the CDs of it. The actress's voices are marvelous. My book group had a great discussion and also talked about what a great read it was.

Good Things Happening is what's its all about. :)

Meredith -

Keep on trying. I don't think I knew you were trying to get published. It takes time sometimes, or so I hear.

I hope you are having a happy Tuesday, too.

Don't you love it when someone collects something so identifiable?

An interesting thing came up in our discussion - a book reviewer didn't think that the dialects sounded authentic. They totally sounded authentic to us. I'm glad you are getting the book.

Good reminder to persevere - I haven't sent my book anywhere this year.

Nice garden! Is that a ceramic lizard?

RK -

A ceramic creature of some sort. A lizard or iguana, maybe.

Beautiful garden- wish mine was going that well, but the climate is behind more up here, n something keeps digging up my plants! My containers are getting worn too0- Also it's alot of shade on the deck- full sun is easier. I'd like to see the bottle tree sometime- what comes in the bottles, wine?
Finding the publisher that wants your story is difficult due to so many specialty requirements they look for- n they keep changing due to the economy. Great she found one!

Yes - the blue bottles had wine in them. She always has a blue bottle of wine at book group so she can put it out with the plants or hang from the tree. I'll definitely get a photo sometime and post it.
