South Pacific, singing all week and patience

- Attending a performance of the play South Pacific at The Fox Theatre with the Fun Girls. It opened with these beautiful typed words by James Michener, “I wish I could tell you about the South Pacific. The way it actually was. The endless ocean. The infinite specks of coral we called islands. Coconut palms nodding gracefully toward the ocean. Reefs upon which waves broke into spray, and inner lagoons, lovely beyond description. I wish I could tell you about the sweating jungle, the full moon rising behind the volcanoes, and the waiting. The waiting. The timeless, repetitive waiting.”

- It is always a treat to just be inside the "fabulous Fox" with its simulated night sky in the ceiling, complete with twinkling lights to simulate stars. And I'll be singing those songs all week, Younger than Springtime, Some Enchanted Evening, etc.

- The Fun Girls lived up to their name once again at a pre-theatre dinner at nearby Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, where the best thing turned out to be a wonderfully patient waiter. :)

lol! I can just imagine how 'patient' the server had to be as there is nothing quite like serving a group of Fun Girls :)

In the shower this morning I found myself humming, "Gonna wash that man right outta my hair" - lol!

You're so right about it being a treat to be in the Fox. I don't imagine anyone could not love it there. It sounds like you had such a wonderful evening, between a lovely (if trying for the waiter) dinner with such fun friends and a performance of South Pacific in a magical setting. I bet you too feel "younger than springtime" after a day like that. :)

Just imagining it all made me smile, Lynn!

Beautiful words indeed, especially liked "...and the waiting. The waiting. The timeless, repetitive waiting.”

That's a majestic picture...can imagine why you called it the "fabulous Fox". Sing on...

Yes - the Fun Girls keep waiters hopping. :)

Nellie Forbush actually washed her hair onstage when singing that.

It was fun. Happy Wednesday!

Blue Bunny -

He was probably waiting for what the war would do to them on that island.

I do have fun - so do you and your Jannie, I think!

xo

Riot Kitty -

I love to go there - it is an awesome place.

Meredith -

I did feel younger than springtime doing all that fun stuff and I'm glad I could make you smile. Not so much today - I didn't get home until almost midnight, so not enough sleep. :) I wondered if your sister was playing in the orchestra.

Shyamanga -

I loved those words - they had them superimposed over the curtain in typewriter type.

The Fox has withstood so much - the danger of being torn down in the 1970's, and being saved at the last minute. It was also a xxx rated theater at one point. I am so happy it remains a big part of my city.

And did she wash her hair on stage? I am certainly lucky.

Snaggle Tooth said...

Of course she did! Her hair is a bit straighter than mine-

When I saw a community theater production of South Pacific as a teenager, that was the thing I was the most impressed with - that she washed her hair right on stage.

BTW - I have curly hair, too - I finally surrendered and let it go curly. Now the southern humidity is my friend. :)
