Day is done, blush and bashful and little gift

- Leaving a book signing and seeing this vision of the sky and setting sun over the city of Decatur, Georgia.

- Reading dooce's blog yesterday in which she had a guest blogger, her friend Sarah, and laughing out loud at the title of it: Blush and bashful. It's all about her impending nuptials, but it made me think of how my sisters and I love the movie "Steel Magnolias" (we get a kick out of the fake southern accents.) :) That line in the movie was spoken by Shelby who announced her wedding colors are "blush and bashful" and her mother piped up and said, "her colors are pink and pink." Anyway - I digress - the post is a hoot.

- Having a chat with the volunteer coordinator at my favorite non-profit, the Georgia Radio Reading Service (for the blind and print-disabled.) I record the New York Times Book Review that airs on Sunday evenings. She asks if I am OK with sticking with that program and I tell her how opening the book review every week to choose the reviews I will read always feels like a little gift. And hopefully the listeners feel that way, too.

Another gift: the weekend! I hope you have a great one!

At the end of the light, there is a pot of gold
That picture was, a glory to behold
In Steel Magnolias the birds had to die
For over the wedding, they wanted to fly
The pink might be pink but white you would find
Because the birds were waiting for just the right time
No reading I'd do for any of the blind
You know I can't feel the bumps or stay on the lines
Now the book reviews is something I'd love to do
Like the cat in the hat and something heard some who

I'm not sure if I view weekends as a gift, as I have to work!!

Anyway you have a great weekend Lynn. Love the sky in that photo. Very dramatic.

Dreamy sky, Lynn. I'm glad you were there to get the shot and share it with us.

So can we hear your *real* Southern accent on this radio program? I may have to tune in sometime. (F. finds it amusing when I detect the fake Southern accents in film. There sure are a lot of them!)

And thanks for the link to the awesome post! This one made me glad that when I met F. he already had all that immigration stuff worked out on his own. He's even able to apply for citizenship as of April, and I didn't have to prove to anybody why I married him. Woohoo! ;)

That is one glorious sky - like the sun was sending a spotlight to heaven.

lol @ the color remark. That about sums it up except in the paint store where there have to be at least 1,100 versions of white alone!

I have no doubts that your listeners think of it as a true gift, Lynn!

Happy Fourth of July!

Ellis -

A great recap! And I think you must have seen Steel Magnolias if you remember the father shooting at the trees. I also liked the Bleedin' Armadillo cake. :)

Jannie -

No - no spotlight on me. And that sky made me say Wow. I was stopped at a traffic light and managed to snap it before the light changed.

Joe -

But your job does sound like fun. :) I hope it is a good weekend anyway!

Meredith -

You can listen if you request a password. They have it streaming on the website, but it requires a password. Normally they want you to be blind or print disabled to have one. Thank you for wanting to hear my voice. :)

I have sort of an Atlanta southern accent, but when I visit my cousins in Macon, the magnolia comes right out. Yes - I can't stand those fake southern accents in movies. In Julia Roberts's case, she already had a background in southern - she is originally from Smyrna, GA.

I used to work for an immigration attorney and processed fiance and marriage visas. The ones in which the spouse was living overseas still were the most tricky. You wouldn't believe some of the stories. I'm glad he already had that worked out.

It does look like a spotlight. I started to circle the block and get out of the car to take a better picture, but was afraid I'd lose it.

I get kind of a kick out of paint color names. I painted most of my place with white walls (with some accent walls in other colors) and I finally chose a white based on its name: Rose White. It was the merest suggestion of pink in it which warms it up.

That is a fantastic photo. Mr. RK is very into photography at the moment and I've directed him here.

THat photo is a gift! Is there a way to podcast your reading of the NYT bookreviews? I listen to lots of audio books and podcasts at the gym and when driving.

Lance -

Thank you and you have a super weekend, too.

Riot Kitty -

Thank you and Mr. RK is welcome any time.

Sage -

That is a lovely thing to say, thank you. And I am flattered that you would want to do that. I can't think of how to do that, but will ask when I am there to do my recording next Tuesday.

Funny you mention "Steel Magnolias" (I must rent it now). My brother and I were talking about my young niece being diagnosed w/ type 1 diabetes and he brought up the movie. I don't even remember a thing about it except it being so terribly sad.

The weekend is truly a gift. Thank God it's Friday!!! Happy 4th of July to you, my friend!

There are so many good lines in that movie, I love it they call sweet iced tea "the house wine of the south!" And it's true. It is sad at the end.

Oh I need this weekend, too. I hope yours is wonderful, too, my friend!

Well, I think a spotlight shines on you where ever you go, and so do a lot of us fans of yours who love you dearly.

Back to bed now for me! :)

Jannie -

Thank you, my friend - I hope you had a good sleep. xo

Granny Annie -

I've seen that movie so many times that I love it when I flip channels and find it on. I know exactly what just happened and what's going to happen.

Blue Bunny -

There is a sad part in it toward the end, but I don't like to think of you crying, so maybe you should stick to something like Veggie Tales, huh?

It's as if someone is pointing a searchlight at the heavens, wonder whom they're searching. The Gods are unlikely to be pleased though.

The program list at the link you provided is interesting. It's a great initiative.

Back here we wouldn't be able to distingush the accents.

I love that movie! One of my all time favorites. Doesn't someone say the chapel looks as if it had been hosed down with pepto bismol? LOL.

Holy ethereal spotlight, Batman! What a... well, holy ethereal spotlight! Stunning!

Lynn, I'm always interested (read "nosey") about what other folks have on their reading lists. What about a review or two on your lovely blog here? :)

Whoa! What a gorgeous shot! I'm certain it was even better in person- Lucky you!
Thanks for the blog referral- hope to find time soon to read it.
I bet you read aloud well, after all that book club experirnce! You are blessed with many fine gifts- Sounds like a great project to do.

Sounds like accents differ all thru Georgia- n it's a large state too!

Anil -

You are right - perhaps someone from that church down below (see the steeple?) is looking for something in the heavens.

Fireblossom -

Yes - that is a great line. :) My sister likes that line about Sally Field's hair looking like a brown football helmet, because she thinks her hair looks like that, too.

Tony -

That was a glorious sky - I couldn't get my camera out fast enough because it would have changed so fast.

I love to read and also listen to books since I love the spoken word. My commute to work is rather long, so I like listening to a book of CD sometimes. Right now I'm listening to "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. She won the Pulitzer Prize for it, so when I finish it, I'll definitely write about it on my blog.

Snaggle -

Accents vary throughout Georgia indeed. And a Tennessee accent is much different from say, a Texas accent. Linguistics is very interesting to me.

Thank you - I was fumbling for my camera quickly since I was at a traffic light. Then I had to wait for cars in the left turn lane to get by. I was able to take two photos and as usual, the first one was the best. I cropped out a light pole on the left and part of the street, but left everything else.
