Dinner, tastespotting and taste of France

- A summertime treat: Caprese salad. Juicy fresh tomatoes from friend Bobby's garden, fresh mozzarella cheese, ground sea salt and black pepper, basil from neighbor Marion and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Dinner. Yummmm.

- The website Tastespotting is kind of an obsession with me lately - I can't stop looking at it and admiring the beautiful displays of food. Readers submit their recipes with appropriate photos they took of them. I am fine with my amateur attempts though. :)

- I always admire the food photography on the "Running with Tweezers" blog. Tami is a food stylist and I always enjoy her posts mixed with recipes and stories accompanied by her beautiful displays of food. The post I've linked to includes a lovely recipe involving tomatoes that might be served in Provence. I'll be making that next.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, friends!

At last you have me
What can I say
This thing with food
Has blown me away

No rhyme can I come up with
I've been racking my brain
For a tomatoes mozzarella drizzle,
You’ve added olive oil, that's insane

Now pictures you show me
From other peoples blog
So I set here all stupid
Like a dumb fog on a log

Tomatoes look delicious. Thanks for other blog links also. I shall check them out.

What a simple but lovely dish, Lynn. I bet my husband would enjoy that, cheese-lover that he is.

I will have to check out those websites. I love looking through cookbooks, just to enjoy the pictures, sometimes :-).

That looks good!

Delish!!

I am waiting for them to invent a pop-up cookbook where the dish pops up, it's warm (if appropriate) and ready to sample :)

Oh, Lynn, that recipe on Running with Tweezers looks so fabulous. Olives and fresh summer tomatoes: you have my attention now. ;)

Caprese salad is hands-down the best easy preparation of those homegrown tomatoes and basil; isn't it? Sometimes, we like to add a little sprinkle of balsamic vinegar to our version. So amazing with Cherokee Purple tomatoes... mmm.

Have a delicious weekend, my friend!

Tony -

It was yummy. My little cat sat and watched me eat every bite. I told her I was pretty sure she wouldn't like it.

I like that "drowning in drool." You have a wonderful way with words. :)

Ellis -

I think I might have a cowboy post next week - that might make for easier rhyming, but I love your wrap-up poem as always. :)

Monique -

I didn't have a photo for today and that just presented itself - I couldn't wait to eat it, but I did a quick photo shoot first.

David Lebovitz is king of the foodies. I LOVE his blog. I knew he and would be friends if we actually met because he says he drinks coffee that has turned cold and likes it that way - I do, too. And he doesn't like al dente pasta - me either. My dream is to go on one of his chocolate tours in Paris.

Joe -

I do, Joe. But I don't eat as much as you would think. Sweets are my downfall. But will or won't eat too much this weekend! :)

Jannie -

Chocolate and popcorn sound like a fine dinner to me!

Blue Bunny -

Do you like fried green tomatoes? I do - with a yummy goat cheese sauce.

Granny Annie -

Tastespotting is endlessly fascinating to me - the page comes up differently every time. And you can log in and save the recipes that look good to you.

Jewel -

If you make it, let me know. That is a summertime favorite.

Tami - the food stylist - has the most beautiful food shots. I haven't met her, but we are in the same area of town, I think. I have won two of her contests - the book, Julie and Julia and a gorgeous handwoven basket made in Rwanda. I love the name of her blog, too. :)

You have a swanky weekend, too, lg! TGIF indeed!

Sage -

SO good. And I ordered the book you reviewed, Wild Comfort. Just the cover gives me comfort with its beautiful blue eggs in a nest. Thank you for the recommendation, Sage.

Talon -

That sounds so 22nd century, doesn't it? Like something you would see in a sci-fi film. You are ahead of your time, my friend!

Meredith -

I like to keep things easy in the summer and this one fit the bill. So good. I'll try the balsamic vinegar next time. Love it.

I don't think I have had Cherokee Purple tomatoes - I wonder of the DeKalb Farmers Market would have them?

You have a delicious weekend, too, friend!

Fireblossom said...

Oh lordy. I was going to say, my goodness but that looks yummy, which it certainly does. ~drool~

But then I read Talon's comment and pretty much fell over laughing. :-D

Interesting Salad- never heard of it before! I'm tempted to cook it for pizza- (don't eat raw tomatoes-) I go nuts looking at pretty food I can't eat sometimes- work gets me starving- Sounds like Tammy has a scrumptious blog-
Enjoy those tomatoes!

Lynn said...

Shay -

Yes - that was pretty funny!

Mama Zen -

I can't ever seem to get that right - I've misplaced the manual that came with my camera and I'm sure it told what to do to get better up close shots.

Snaggle -

I'll bet it is hard to resist eating the food you are preparing when you are around it all the time.

One of my co-workers bakes sliced tomatoes in the oven with regular grated mozzarella and sprinkles basil on top for a pizza-like taste. Sounds good.

Lynn, caprese salad is my absolutely most favorite food in the world. Why does your blog always make me hungry?!

Lynn said...

Riot Kitty -

I love it because it is so easy to make, as well as being delicious. And I don't have to cook it. :)

CiCi said...

This is a delicious dish for sure. We cut tomatoes and put mozzarella on them and our fresh basil, under broiler a couple minutes. Great side dish. I never get tired of it.

You've made me hungry with all the food talk and I will come back to check out those blogs. Love the title "Running with Tweezers" and your caprese salad looks yummy! :)

TechnoBabe -

I had it again yesterday - I love it, too. My sister makes it the way you do - really good! :)

I love the food blogs, but there are so many of them. I happened upon Tami's Running with Tweezers blog when she was doing a challenge to eat on just a few dollars for a week - not sure I could do that.

Tastespotting is a good place to sample the food blogs without linking to all of them.
