Family guard, the fun side and storms

- This dragon that looks after the family home, guarding it from evil-doers. It is right across the street from kind people fortunately - the Atlanta Union Mission's offices where I have printing clients.

- A client who usually designs commercial work is getting into invitation design on the side. I love it when she calls for eccentric paper. This time she wants to see a smooth black cover stock, which might have a fuchsia design, or shimmering silver that will have black print. What makes it extra fun: it's a Starbucks meeting.

- Getting close to home after work and finding the sky is getting darker and darker. I see a flash of light in the distance and hear a faint rumble. A storm's a brewin'. I decide that errands can wait until tomorrow and head for home.

A dragon that guards
A lighting filled storm
A Starbucks meeting
And paper of all form
No errands you ran
For in the far distance
Dragon fiery breath you saw
Witch rumble was to persistent

What a cool sculpture for the front yard! I'd never seen anything like it.

I love Starbucks meetings, especially when it's cool and rainy outside (which rarely happens in Miami, but when it does).

Hope your Tuesday is bright and sunny, Chica!

I'm with Granny Annie... that dragon is fearsome cool! I would totally sleep the sleep of logs with that guy guarding my home! Oh, actually, maybe not if I was a log... that'd make me highly, erm, flammable. :P

That dragon reminds me of the creature who appears a couple of times in the quirky 2003 movie "Northfork."

In the city where I work, there used to be some guy who built these life size white nudes and put them in his side yard, facing a semi-main road. There would be 3-5 of them at any given time, men and women, doing different stuff. Though they weren't suggestive, they really weren't skillfully enough done (though they weren't awful, either) to be appealing. I often wondered how his neighbors felt about them.

On the other hand, in the city where I used to live, there was a shallow, gated front yard with a fountain just inside the wrought iron gate. Standing in the middle of the fountain, was this beautifully rendered female nude, and the whole thing was just gorgeous. It belonged in Florence or Paris, not the burbs of Detroit.

PS--did you make it home ahead of the storm?

Every home should have a dragon guard :)

Cool. A dragon's breath is something like lightening - I hadn't thought of that. Thank you for my poem. :)

I like that house, too, but the dragon makes it fun.

I've gotten kind of hooked on Starbucks meetings. A nonfat latte is a guilty pleasure and nonfat!

Thank you, my friend!

Me, too!

Oh Tony - you make me chuckle. :) And I like that term "fearsome cool!"

Jannie -

Yes - no getting out of the errands today. :)

I love sculpture. The first ones you describe sound dubious, but the second one sounds lovely. There is a house near my house that is just a suburban looking two-story house, but the front yard is full of Grecian looking statues. They seem oddly out of place.

I did make it home and the wind blew and the trees rustled, the sky stayed black and it didn't rain until about 8pm. I could have run the errands, but oh well. Nothing that couldn't wait and it gave me an excuse to watch a movie.

Talon -

I think so, too. :)

Hello - thanks for stopping by. I think it is fantastic, too.

Gotcha. :)

I love that dragon. It looks like it's from a tree, but taken from a broken branch...it doesn't look carved out of wood.

It's fun to be around people who fire up your brain and are excited about they do. It's makes work so much better:~)

Storms...we're on a brief hiatus, but usually every afternoon they swagger in with their dark clouds and booming voice. I actually like them...as long as I'm not driving in them!

I enjoy your posts very much:~)

Aw, I want a Starbucks meeting with Lynn and cool paper samples. I used to run the Paperie at Sam Flax and just drool (well, not too much, had to keep the paper clean) when the new season's shipments of papers would come in. I'll be a paper junkie forever! :)

Wise woman to get inside when a storm's a brewin'... we're hearing distant rumbles even now, and crossing our fingers for more rain.

So long it isn't Barney, the house will be protected from harm from the kiddies. :D

The dragon is made of metal - an artist fashioned this dragon out of metal. I'm so impressed by that. And I like the rust. :)

I love storms, too! But I like to be indoors when they are going on.

And thank you for that - I love that you are coming by.

Wouldn't we have a lovely time? Paper is frustrating in a way - designers often come in to our shop and want to see numerous swatchbooks and most often the one they like turns out to be paper that comes from the mill and they have to buy an entire pricey carton when they need on a fraction of it. In a meeting like the one I described, I've already checked to see if there is some of it in Atlanta.

Maybe that's where I know you from - Sam Flax.

I hope you got some rain!

G -

There ya go! :)

I feel like I'm missing out having quit coffee...
It's alaws good to know you'll be safe n dry instead of caught in a storm. Takes the pressure off the day too.

I've started drinking hot tea in the morning, but still love a non-fat latte here and there.
