Go Braves, hair for the spill and fancy headdress

- My hairdresser Tim (also an old friend, who works out of his home) indulges in a bit of whimsy by decorating his front yard lawn jockey according to occasion. This time it was in honor of Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox's birthday. I walked in asking why the lawn jockey was wearing a hard hat. "No!" he said, "it's an English Bobby's hat." Now I get it. He added, "And then they rose to first place!" So that's why...

- Someone put out a call for hairdressers to collect and send in hair clippings to make buoys in the gulf. Apparently mats made from human hair are good for soaking up oil.

- Tim is Native American and regularly participates in powwow dance competitions. This is a headdress he made from grouse feathers he has been collecting. I think he should win just for being the most stylin' dancer!

Nice headress. The hair idea is interesting, but I have none to spare. As for the Braves, I'll keep my comments to myself and avoid being blocked from your blog :)

Man, that headdress rocks! I would so wear that to church, just to get a response! Yup, I like to nudge the beehive once every so often... ;)

And if I'd known that human hair was good for oil spills, I would've saved some of mine back when I got it cut a little shorter (It used to go right down my back). Oh well, perhaps next time...

Ah yes that sure is a Copper's helmet! I'm interested to know how Tim came to have it? Or shouldn't I ask!

I have enough hair to spare - so we're covered I think. :)

No blocking for you, Sage, I'm glad you are coming by. :)

Tony -

I like how he started with a baseball cap - it really is a beauty. It might be good to shake the church people up a bit.

I hope I didn't gross anyone out by showing the hair - mine is on top. He cut a ton last night.

Joe -

Tim and his wife love fun and funky things - there is no telling where that came from. :)

Lynn,

As I live in an area very much affected by the oil spill, please tell Tim thank you for collecting the hair!

Tim's headdress is impressive. Is it light or heavy. Whatever...the feathers are beautiful.

I don't really follow baseball, but I hope the Braves do well.

BTW You visited Talon Guest Post and said that Harvey, the Daddy Longlegs, was planning a visit to Atlanta. I just wanted to let you, you can expect him soon. I understand that he packed his bags, one for each leg, and is heading South:~)

Gorgeous headdress!

I heard that about human hair - yuck!

I think your friend should just wear that headdress for any occasion ;)

What an amazing headdress! I love watching the powwow dancers. One that awed me recently on youtube was the SunDance. Have you seen that one performed? (And I hadn't realized Sundance Film Festival was named for it, either.)

Sure looks like you went for the dramatic change last night, Lynn. I keep threatening to cut off my hair in this heat, but F. keeps begging me not to. Maybe if I tell him it's for a good cause...

Somehow I really did lose track of the Braves. I used to keep up, but lately I have no idea what they're doing. I guess I have more important people to keep up with, like you, my friend. :)

Love the headdress! WOW!!

Collecting hair for the oil clean-up sounds like a fantastic idea. I hope something gets done soon!

As for the lawn jockey, I have NEVER seen one here in South Florida...and the one you've shown here is FUNKY, Chica!! Nice hat!

The Braves, eh?

Hmmmmmmm......

Wool is very absorbent and we've wondered why they haven't floated mats of wool on the oil spill.

That is the most unusual feather headdress I have seen and I just love it. We have an image of what is normal and I especially love such surprises.

Watch out, that lawn jockey will get kicked out of the yard! (ask Tim, if you're mystified, lol)

Love the grouse feathers!

Sara -

I will tell him. The oil spill is so devastating.

You know - I didn't lift it. I do go watch him at the powwows when they are nearby, so I'll get to see it in action.

I like your blog very much and I have linked to it. I'll watch out for Harvey! :)

Mama Zen -

It is gorgeous.

RK -

We don't encourage him - he is likely to do just that. :)

Meredith -

I am not sure - they sort of run together now. I'll ask him about that one.

My hair wasn't nearly as long as yours - it was just touching my shoulders. It's up around my collar now - got lots of compliments today. I say keep your long if you like it that way, too - there's always the ponytail, right?

My mom is devoted to the Braves - we talk Braves when I call. Thank you for being so loyal, Meredith.

Ellis -

I don't know...I kind of like it. :)

Click on the tag Lawn Jockey Art and you'll see some of his others. I'm glad you liked it.

G -

Yes - the Braves. We love our Braves.

Granny Annie -

I'm glad you like seeing it. Going to Tim's is always great for blog material. :)

Shay -

I guess I'll have to ask him! :)

Aren't they great?

Hey, I remember that Atlanta Braves boy from last year! You and I have such a long history now, Lynn! And many more years to come, I hope!

I sure hope you'll let us know if Tim won? That is totally a super-cool headdress.

Headdress, a really funny word when you think of it. (And even when you don't.) Wearing a dress on one's head. :)

Interesting Jockey outfit combo- thought it was gonna say Fox at first- I do remember him also.
I wonder who he sends the hair too?
Great feathers! I have a feather collection, but I like them on the wall stuck in a wicker thingy.

Hmmm never thought of watching PowWow dance on utube like Meredith-

It's great, isn't it? I like to collect feathers, too. I keep them in a pottery thing. :)
