Mimosa trees, lovingly stolen and good to go

- A walk on beautiful Saturday morning with two friends and a bonus that it was a new park (to me.)  At the end of the trail, we have a discussion about Mimosa trees (seen here.)  We all like them, but I remember my mother always said they made her sneeze - I guess it was those fuzzy blossoms.  Here's what the internet says, "Originally from China, Mimosa or Silk tree was introduced to the United States in 1745 and cultivated since the 18th century primarily for use as an ornamental.  Mimosa remains a popular ornamental because of its fragrant and showy flowers."  They sure seem to be blooming in abundance around metro Atlanta right now.

 - My cousin Emily wrote this note to her mom (delightful Kay) for her birthday.  Her brother, father and her wee nephew weigh in on the good wishes, too.  :)  Emily wrote:  "Mama was feelin' loved! Everyone wanted to steal my note!"

- Giving my cat carrier to friend (also named) Lynn, who is collecting carriers for a 12-hour drive to Cleveland, Ohio.  (She is moving there and driving with four cats!)  I tell her that she may want to wash it since it probably still carries the scent of my Sophie (who passed away two years ago).  But she sends the picture above after she gets home with it - Scooter adopted it immediately.

Pink mimosa flowers are so pretty. Thanks for the info on them. I always thought they looked like they were from China. Love the pick of Scooter. I think Scooter is a great name for a cat. :)

Your friend is very brave driving with four cats in the car! I've done it with 2 cats and it wasn't a pleasant journey at all!!

Mimosa trees are lovely but I'm with your mom on the sneezing bit. We should have thought some plants through a little better before bringing them to America.

Okay I can tell the the ink used it was Kallyn(?) or Kollyn(?) who deleted the others. Looks like something I might have done.

It is nice that Scooter adopted Sophie's carrier but it had to be hard for you to let go.

Mimosa blossoms do look Asian, I think. I have always loved the way they look, too.

Joe -

She's giving them Rescue Remedy for cats. She says it calms them down and makes them mostly sleep.

Granny Annie -

I know! Kind of like the dreaded Kudzu. I distinctly remember having one of those Mimosa trees in the first backyard of my memory - before we moved to the house still up for sale.

Looks like Emily wrote the note, Scott came by, crossed out Emily's name and wrote his name in. Glenn crossed out Scott's name and so on. Kollyn's mom must have written his name in.

It was hard to let the carrier go, but it made me sad every time I looked at it. Sophie stayed in it a lot in the days leading up to her last visit to to the vet, so I'm kind of glad another cat can use it and that Scooter likes her scent. :)

Love the note and the fact that Lynn's cat totally loves the carrier. Gosh, I wish my cats would lay around in their carriers. It's the battle of the century once they see them.

Hi Lynn .. Mimosa here is yellow - and got sent to my aunt and uncle in Spring I think - perhaps later in the year - every year for its fragrance ... they loved it - it came with other goodies - perhaps Harvest time.

Beautiful note from Emily - such pleasure little things give ..

The Scooter sure looks home .. saying this one is mine - my home ..

Great post - cheers Hilary

That was so sweet of you to give her your carrier. Glad her cat liked it - how come you don't have another cat?

Liked your new park! sandie

That carrier must be charmed, because my cat loved to lay around in it, too.

Hilary -

Yellow Mimosa - I'll bet that's beautiful.

Cheers to you!

Sandie -

I was traveling so much on the weekends the last year that it didn't seem like a good idea to get another cat. Now I'm sort of used to not having one.

That is Lilburn City Park - just beautiful.

"Scooter" looks as happy as a clam! It was so nice of you to give her your cats carrier....I lost my dear boy, "Sweetie" in January....It is still very very painful....!

Traveling with four cats....Your friend is very brave...!

I haven't seen those type of trees up here at all- Most of the flowering trees are done here now. Blossoms are having a tough time in this prolonged rain period here recently-
That note is so heart warming! Good idea the stealing the sentiment y different family members- would make a great MomDay card. Here we are almost at Dad Day already!
Wow, Scooter likes a carrier! You'd think I was trying to kill Mischief with the fuss she makes trying to get her in one of those-

I'm having major Blogger posting probs this week- btw
Hope everyone else isin't!

Old Lady of the Hills -

I know - I think she is brave, too - I can't imagine that. I was worried how they'll pee or whatever, but she says she thinks they'll hold it. :)

It's difficult getting over a pet's death - I totally understand. I'm still sad, too.

Thank you! I used a technique on Picassa, called "vignette."

He looks like a boy cat, doesn't he?

Snaggle -

Yes - Sophie used to like sleeping in it, but going out in it was another matter. My technique there involved trickery. :)

Thanks for the tip; I like using different photo shopping techniques (on occasion!) I have no ability to get a 'soft glow' type look currently so I rather like to see it Lynn!

Do you know Picassa? It's a free download and I use that to edit my photos (mostly straightening and cropping.) But I like Vignette and Glow - two effects I put on my photos regularly. Some of the others I think are too "way out" for me. :)

I was a mimosa tree in a past life. So sayeth the gypsies I used to run with in the catacombs of Rome.

:)

I've seen Miomosas here for all of my almost-22 years in Texas but never knew they were fragrant. You know I'll be sniffing the neighbor's blooms when I get home today!

Oh, and LOVE to drink mimosas, oh yeah.

The name Mimosa is poetic as well.

I like the thought of a cat carrier named Pet Taxi. Just imagining it with a steering and wheels for cat journeys.
