- A great American passed away on Tuesday. I couldn't resist this small tribute to Andy Griffith and his famous show. I especially loved this episode in which Opie learns a valuable lesson from his Pa. And that last line in the video - I think of it every time I hear birds singing.

- This time last year I was in this throng of people running / walking The Peachtree Road Race - the world's largest 10K race. This year I'm sleeping in, maybe having a little breakfast on the back porch, thinking about what I'll do for the rest of the July 4th holiday. I'm glad I did that race once, but now it's checked off my Bucket List. :)
- And remembering the real reason for this holiday in the United States - to embrace our freedom and be thankful to America's founding fathers. A quote from another great American: "As I grow older, I am increasingly fascinated by our founding fathers. The challenges they faced and the compromises they made, good and bad, to create a nation, have inspired us and people around the world." - Colin L. Powell

Thank you Lynn for sharing that neat video. The trees around here are certainly "nice and full" and it's a very good Independence Day statement.
Congratulations on your run last year and even better the fact that it's off your list and you don't have to do it again.
And we continue to face "...compromises, good and bad, to create a nation..." still very much in its infancy.
Those founding fathers looked killer in wigs and frills!
Happy 4th, Lynn!
Happy Happy Fourth of July, Lynn! Hope you have a beautiful day.
I was sad to hear of Griffith's passing. And that iconic whistling immediately flooded my mind.
Wonderful sentiments Lynn. #1 had me a bit teary, but I liked it a lot.
Enjoy your Fourth whatever way
you decide to spend it!
We don't celebrate the 4th of July here in the UK, it's just another day, although we do celebrate it in a different way, as it's the day our daughter arrived in our home 17 years ago! :)

That and being free - it all works together. My dad was very Andy Taylor-like and he would have been the same age as Andy Griffith - 86. So when I heard he died yesterday, I was so sad!
I walked with some friends early this morning and told them how much better it was being with them. :)
We are in our infancy and still working on getting it together, but it's where I want to be.

YEAH they did!

Thank you, my friend. It's been beautiful so far.
Yes - the whistling - so great.

I'm glad you liked it - I was feeling sentimental about Andy and just had to post that clip - a favorite.
Happy 4th to you!

That's a wonderful anniversary for you - the best of all. So happy 4th to you for the anniversary of her arrival.
Loved Mayberry and that sweet sheriff. Love Colin Powell's quote too. We take so much for granted. Rent the DVD series John Adams. It's wonderful, gave me such a appreciation for the founding fathers. Hope your holiday is great!
Good for you, Girl! Enjoy your mid-week holiday.
That whistling will love on forever in our hearts.
Freedom -- it so totally rocked. The Founding Fathers were heroic. Still so grateful to live in this nation.
xoox
meant "live on" forever in our hearts... but "love on" works too! :)
Rocks, and rocked. Oy, so many typos today. I so need to go to bed early tonight.
mare ball -
I actually saw the John Adams series a few years ago - I agree - it does give one more of an appreciation of our founding fathers.

Typos or not - just glad to see you today. Happy 4th, my friend!

With the temperatures you've had there, I think sleeping in sounds much better!
Thinking of Andy always brings me back to the days when I was a kid watching Ron Howard about the same age, as Opey with his TV Dad. I used to watch it on the old black n white with my Dad. Watched Matlock too. Tough to let the great influences go.
I've been whistling the tune for awhile now-
Glad you get to rest the feet, as do I this year! I did salt-soak the aching toes at the M-cove today.
Good quote you found! Freedom is the name of the game here!
Hope your Day went very well!

I slept until 6:30am - that's a little sleeping in. :) Back to work today.

Ah - soaking your feet in the M Cove sounds delightful. I hope you had a good day off.
Hope you had a relaxing 4th yesterday.
I was stunned when I'd found out that Andy Griffith passed away on Tuesday.
Leaves only Ron Howard and Jim Nabors left alive from the original series.
I LOVED Andy in all his roles and must admit I cried when I heard he died. He has been a fixture all my life in my life - TV wise.
I hope you had a wonderful 4th.

I know - I was so sad!

I did have a nice 4th, although I treated it as if it was a Saturday. I loved having a day off mid-week. Hope yours was good too!
I can't even imagine doing a 10K!
Beautiful video...so sweet and wholesome. I miss those old days of TV.
I'm happy to hear you crossed the 10K off your bucket list. Still working on mine. :-)
Mama Zen -
You could do that.
Scarlet -
I miss that, too. And it's SO off my bucket list. :)
Happy belated 4th and I loved Andy! sandie
