Fanlights, Crape Myrtles and a bee

- The fanlights on the side of this antique mall in the little town of Lilburn, where I like to walk at the nearby greenway park.  I'm thinking this building must have once housed a bank or might have even been the police station / jail.  It has an institutional look (except for the windows.)  But it's hard to imagine any crime in a sleepy little borough such as this.

- The Crape Myrtle trees are in bloom now.  I love how this treat is saved for the middle of the summer.

- Neighbor Rhonda is away and her plants needed a little water.  So I watered around this busy bee, who kept moving and was hard to capture with my camera (and I didn't want to disturb).  See him there?  I'm so delighted to see bees, after hearing so much about them not being around as much.

That is a pretty building. You can faintly tell that there used to be full length windows under the fan shapes. It's perfect for an antique store now.

Bumblebees and honeybees are my favorites. I don't care much for yellowjackets and wasps. My crepe myrtle is the prettiest I've ever seen it. My husband cut it back last year. I think he is a genius.

If you were on the first floor of that building you'd have to be pretty tall to look out a window.

Oh how I wish we had some lovely green areas like that near us. This year's drought just keeps making things worse and worse. The trees we didn't lose last year will most likely be done-for this years.

We rarely, if ever, see any kind of bees anymore. I don't mind the wood-bees being gone but we all need the honey bees. If our health finally returns we are seriously considering putting bee hives at the back of our property.

Crape Myrtles-just the mention of the word takes me back to Southern summers.

I was trying to take a shot of a beautiful butterfly this weekend but he just wouldn't keep still! Ha. I love seeing all the insects now. The weather has been so bad I haven't seen a thing until this weekend and today.

Leonora -

Thanks for pointing that out - I'll have to go back and look. I loved walking through it with my friend I walk with - she has a booth there.

This one was so busy and paid me no mind as I snapped multiple photos - this one came out the best.

Aren't they beautiful? Ours really are just now blooming perfectly.

Granny Annie -

True! And I hate that you have such a drought going. We got a little more of our share of rain the last several days - somehow that doesn't seem right.

I hope your health returns soon - I like to think of you as bee keeper.

Sage -

Exactly - I guess they don't grow well in the north.

Joe -

I know! This one wouldn't stop moving either. :)

Thank you - I think so, too!

Our family mascot is the bee, actually - my dad got that nickname from frequent traveling. Someone on one of his trips said he was like a bee going from flower to flower, and it stuck.

Bees are the bees knees indeed. I love the little critters. And never in ALL my life have been stung by one. But the fireants over these past 22 years have more than made up for that. I'm sure I've had at least 200 bites here and there -- but luckily not all at once!

Yes, our crapes are bombastic this year!! I saw many start to bloom in late May, and depending on the color there are always some blooming somewhere -- including at our own place. I planted 4 in the front in '94. And a few in the back in'98. They do "sweat" tho and my car windshield gets very sticky. Which reminds me..... add water to my wiper reservoir thing. Like, today!

I want to go in that building and poke around. And take a photo from one of the fanlights to post on my blog!! :) :) Preferable with YOU in said photo. After I get the shot I'll take you for coffee and pastries someplace awesome!!

Come to think of it I rarely see bees anymore, but there are plenty of butterflies (which I prefer).

Love that you care for your neighbors plants. So sweet.

I love the crate myrtels here in Georgia - I have some but they are in the shade and we need to move them to the sun - they love the sun. sandie

I always see great bee things - what a nice mascot!

Jannie -

I think it was a fire ant that bit me in the park a couple of months ago - I can still see the bite and it still itches a little.

Our crapes are out of the way of windshields, fortunately.

I'd love to walk through that antique mall with you, too, Jannie Muffin. I always have impulses to buy things, but then remember that there's not one more inch to put anything in in my home. :)

Scarlet -

I love butterflies, too. Thank you - my neighbors are all good about helping each other out.

Sandie -

Yes - ours are in full sun.

Interesting old building with so many fanlifgt windowa there- Almost sero of those seen around here. Also none of those pretty Myrtle trees here. Lucky bee thst you appreciate n don't want to disturb. I've actually had several honey bees out on the deck blooms this summer. Good thing, or I'd have no peas to eat! The large hive across in the woods is doing ok this year, TG. I can't get close for pics tho!

That is an interesting old building....And it's now a Mall?? Go figure!
LOVE that tree and I LOVE that Bee, too....I'm glad the Bees are around, too. It seemed so very horrific, in every way, that they were at risk...Our whole eco-system would be effected in a very bad way without Bees!

The crape myrtles are absolutely gorgeous here this year!

Yes - the bee seemed oblivious. I love to watch them, too.

OldLady of the Hills -

Yes - a charming antiques mall inside. A very shy gentlemen mans it and people have individual booths. I love to look at stuff and have a hard time not bringing more into my house. :)

Mama Zen -

I like that they seem so hardy. I guess they don't need a lot of water.
