The wings of dragons, being proactive and basil rolls

- My Dragon Wing Begonia at the peak of its beauty for this summer.  This taken just before it is about to take over my front door in hugeness.   I love the thought someone had to name this plant after the wings of dragons.  It seems as if the leaves are indeed shaped like dragon's wings.

- Dr. Stephen Covey passed away on Monday.  His book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" had a huge influence on me as a young corporate manager in the '90s.  Particularly the very first one, "Be Proactive" - one can either choose to react or be proactive.  "We can choose to be different, be better, to overcome and rise above our circumstances."  I heard an awful lot of whining from employees back then, and so I try to remember this very highly effective habit when I'm tempted to do that myself.  :)

- A wonderful meal of Thai food at the lovely L'Thai Organic Cuisine and Wine Bar.  My friend ordered the red snapper and got the entire fish.  My favorite:  the flash fried basil rolls.  So delicious I'll be dreaming about them today (and I don't have to - I scored a couple for lunch today.)

So you have a dragon (leaved begonia) guarding your front door. cool. My favorite Covey tenant, begin with the end in mind. Yep, I learned a lot from Covey's work. Enjoy your lunch. :)

Friendly dragons:)

I did no hear of Dr.Stephen Covey's death. There is our third celebrity. Andy Griffith, Ernest Borgnine and now Dr. Covey. Three good guys.

By the "whole fish" did you mean head and all. I shall never forget being served trout as a child and almost going into shock when they placed the plate in front of me with the eyes staring back. Yikes!

I wonder if there will be flash fry basil rolls mobs in the subways now? Chefs with their pans doing a quick fry and fly. :)

I love when plants overtake the pathway to a door, reach out and give a leaf a hug and a hello as you pass by -- they LOVE that! But you probably already do that anyway, knowing you. You probably stop and sing them a little tune once in a while.

Yes, it really is up to ourselves to better our situation. When I start to slip into wine mode, I remind myself to just breathe deeply, realize things really are okay, and act if action needs to be done! Already today I dropped Mieshka for her spaying. And took some great pix of a motorcycle helmet to sell on eBay. Proactive, I think? Less cats and a little more money is a good combo in my life these days! :)

Oh gosh, I had to leave that wine /whine typo up there! :) Slipping into wine mode, especially at a basil roll wine bar is heaven on earth!

"Be Proactive;" aaaahhh. If (only) I could, indeed, master this! Love ya Lynn!

Thai food is wonderful. I got to meet Covey once when I was in Utah. Sat beside him on a podium and we talked for a bit.

happygirl -

I like the idea of dragons guarding my front door. :)

Granny Annie -

Yes - another wonderful person is gone. But his legacy will live on.

Yes! It was the head and all and had been sauteed in bread crumbs, so it was slightly creepy to me to see the eyes still there. Shudder.

Jannie -

That flash mob thing is all the rage now. Someone sent me a link to one in Russia - a bunch of people dancing to "Puttin' on the Ritz." :)

I have not sung to my plant before, but certainly will now. I'll have to think of a good song.

Yes - just breathe! And you must be wanting some wine!

xo

lg -

You can do it. Love you, too, my friend!

Those basil rolls were so divine, it makes me wonder why I don't have them more.

Riot Kitty -

Here to serve!

Sage -

Wow! That must have been wonderful to meet him.

Lynn,

The leaves of that plant do look a dragon's wings.

I loved Jannie's typo and I was glad she left "slip into wine mode!" I don't think Covey talked about that mode very often.

The Thai food sounded good, but I'm not fond of seeing the WHOLE fish. Your dish sounded better to me:~)

Happy day to you!

Dr. Covey was so wise. Made a big impact on many people. Beautiful flowers!

Those leaves are prettier just hearing that magical name! I got B a dragon toy for his b-day, but the wings keep falling off! I want to superglue them, but parts are always lost when I go there...

That sounds like a good book to be influenced by. I like being more proactive myself, but yes, some folks don't like it, n take it wrong. You are proactive in a nice n helpful way, I believe- You do so much!
Another food I never heard of- Do they have veggies n rice in them?

I really want thai food now! Unfortunately there are not many good options around here...

Sara -

I might be slipping into wine mode Friday evening. :) Ha!

Mare ball -

Very much so. And thank you! And I saw your guest post at the A to Z blog - good job!

Snaggle -

That is indeed a magical name for the plant - I like the thought of magic.

Joanne -

No good Thai food in New York City? Something about that doesn't sound right.

Those leaves will protect you from all evil. Beautiful photo, btw.

My brother loved that book...and he's done so well with his businesses. Apparently, he got a lot out of it, too.

The basil roll sounds yummy! I love trying new foods lately...so much that I have about 15 pounds to lose!

I loved his book - he had some great ideas and true ones. I did not know he had died.

And that plant was beautiful!

Mama Zen -

Thank you!

Scarlet -

I like to think that and thank you!

It's a wonderful book, for sure.

And if you've gained that much, I can't see it. You look great.

Sandie -

Yes - a wonderful man.

As someone who hates fish the idea of eating a whole one would be like a punishment! Glad you enjoyed it though. :)
