- The pumpkins being unloaded at Whole Foods and the slight color change of the trees in the distance, on the first day of autumn.
- Sitting with friends on a back porch, a cool breeze blowing. The host chef has made paella and is cooking it on the outdoor grill in an enormous pan. The sign that it is done is the sound of the rice crackling. It was delicious.
- A very nice man displays his inherited accordion during the children's sermon at church. I love how the adults in the background are much more delighted with the story than the children in front of him.

I miss the pumpkin patch in Kansas. It was on the honor system. You selected your pumpkin, put it on a set of bathroom scales they had outside and left your money in a box in the front seat of a junk car in their yard. You never saw a human around. Bet we paid a lot less than we would at Whole Foods!
What the heck is in paella? I have heard of it but never even seen it until now. Looks like it has everything but the kitchen sink.
Our California daughter plays the accordion and was at her children's school one day when the Principal told her he couldn't wait for her performance at their school. Her children had arranged it and she didn't know a thing about it. She showed up and entertained them well.
Look at that paella!! It's picture-perfect and lucky you got to eat it!
I always thought an accordion must be near impossible to play and I admire anyone who can master it.
That paella is making my mouth water and it isn't even 7 o'clock a.m. yet. Pumpkins, leaves turning, chilly mornings. Welcome fall. :)
Granny Annie -
I'm sure you did. I was at Whole Foods for the olive bar + dark sesame oil.
Paella has chicken, chorizo sausage, clams, mussels, shrimp, arborio rice with saffron, other spices, I guess. So good.
That's a neat accordion story.

I am lucky. He told the story of discovering this box as a boy and opening it to find that accordion that belonged to his grandfather. He played "This is the day that the Lord hath made." and we all sang along.

I love fall!
This is the day that the Lord hath made.
I rejoice and be glad.
This is the day that the Lord hath made.
I rejoice and be glad...
Is that the tune?? I've also heard it in 4/4 time peppier with a different melody, but the version from my childhood is the waltz melody, in 3/4 time, maybe 6/8.
Are you a Fawlty Towers fan? If so you may recall the episode with Manuel and The Cook in a spat over a Manuel's mother's paella recipe. Cook was making it all wrong, as I recall. And Cook had quite been into his nips.
Ahhh, thanks for this refreshing post. It's always a haven here at your place.
I'll have to take Kelly to W.F. Their pumpkin displays are for sure the best.
And let's see if I can make this comment yet a bit longer with this sentence. :) :)
xooxo
You had a nice weekend - dinner with friends - church - and my favorite store - Whole Foods - those pumpkins looked so pretty.
How lovely. Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year. I also think that greeting the change of seasons at the equinox or solstice is much more sensible than our practise of using the first of the month.
Oh, mercy, that looks tasty!

I don't know all those fraction times to music - but it's a peppy tune. I'm sure it's the same one.
It's always good to see you here, my friend, I miss you when you are away.
xo
Sandie -
I did have a nice weekend. I end up spending too much at Whole Paycheck, I mean Whole Foods, but I love to look around in there.
The Elephant's Child -
I agree. You all are in spring right now, so I guess fall is next April or so?

Extremely tasty. :)
It's amazing to think that summer is over. We haven't really had one here in the UK. Now the leaves are falling off the trees and we have the central heating on.
I don't like fish so I'd have to pass on the paella.
I am actually much more appreciative of children's stuff as an adult than I was as a kid :)
That paella looks divine!
Great pumpkin shot- Psyched me right up for Autumn! Starving while looking at that food- Looks Scrumptious. I don't eat clams Or Shrimp tho.
I hear accordions take alot of skill n practice. I inherited a violin, n still have alot to learn. No concerts yet, but I like playing along with cds. I always recommend adults take up new instruments to keep the learning greased...
Joe -
Yes - I heard you had a rainy summer over there. Ours was HOT.

Me, too. :)

I know - it just screams fall, doesn't it?
I never was good at any kind of musical instrument. I dropped out of beginner band in the 5th grade and never looked back. :)
