- Love this Thanksgiving hybrid turkey, snapped at a hybrid kind of food place, Hankook Taqueria (Korean food with a Mexican format) while waiting for my take-out lunch.
- Sitting around a table with my "circle" friends at church and thinking how dear they all are to me. We sign cards for Janet's son, in Afghanistan for a third time, passing the cards around the table. She includes cards for each soldier in his Army unit, too. I am thankful for their service.
- Leaving the church 8:30, having had no dinner yet, and thinking I will at least get home in time to see who was eliminated on "Dancing with the Stars" (a guilty pleasure.) But I pop into the grocery store to quickly pick up something to nibble plus one Thanksgiving ingredient that tends to sell out. The store is virtually empty, the cashiers idly chatting with each other. A woman is perusing the greeting cards when I pass and looks up. We burst out laughing - it's my dear friend Barbara G. - we have a 30 minute catch up in the store. Totally worth missing my show. :)
- A man stocking vegetables smiles when I ask him where the French Fried Onion Rings in a can are and walks me to them. You have to have those for Green Bean Casserole - it's the Southern way.
- This last one is for Joe. Of course I thought ahead and recorded Dancing with the Stars. As I eat my frozen ravioli dinner, I watch and there is Joe's Kylie Minogue, as a singing guest. She sings "The Locomotion" while dancers swirled around her. I catch her in an awkward pose, but it's the thought that counts.

Thank you for sending cards to our soldiers! A pleasant task for the ladies which will mean a great deal to the men and women on the receiving end. It's nice that the mom includes the entire unit.
Cool turkey. I wonder if the owner's child made it.
Wonderful church to participate in sending cards to our soldiers.
I am not surprised you preferred seeing a dear friend over catching your favorite show and I was glad to know you had taped the show.
Leonora -
Her son leads the unit and asked that they be included - especially the soldiers who are single, but we included them all.
Her son was 19 when he joined the army. I remember his mother being so upset at that. I remember him as a long haired boy with a sweet smile. He was floundering - not liking college, not knowing what he wanted for the future and overshadowed by his Duke medical school brother. It's been wonderful to see him grow as a man, husband and father to three adopted children (all siblings.) He was on the cover of Wired magazine several months ago, standing on the wing of a US fighter jet with other soldiers, looking like GI Joe. What a change!
Granny Annie -
I don't know who made it, but it's fun. The owner is a celebrated Atlanta chef who started this business - he's quite taciturn, or I would ask him. :)
Lynn~That sounds like such a relaxing, fun night. Thank you for thinking ahead and taking 'us' along with you. :-)
Aww, what can I say? My internet has been down since Saturday morning, and I'm just able to get on-line again and what do I see? My beautiful Kylie strutting her stuff! I love the way she now performs one of her very early hits "The Locomotion".
Thank you so much for thinking of me Lynn. :)
Random catch-up sessions in the supermarket are the best! And how sweet of you to sign cards for the troops!
Sounds like you are going to get the best of both things! I did not agree with the show - lol. I think Cheryl and her partner needed to go. What about you? He just isn't as good this time around - probably getting older. lol sandie
Writing cards to soldiers makes me remember my mom telling me about doing the same thing for soldiers in WWII. It's nice to know it still continues and that the soldiers who are single are not left out.
I can't comment on Thanksgiving yet. I feel like the holidays are rushing at me, but I am glad you got the French Fried Onion Rings...they are essential to good green bean Casserole:~)
The post is a bit different, but I agree it is the thought that counts. Hopefully Joe agrees with you:~)
I know those green bean casseroles are a southern thing, but people up here make them too and the only eatable thing about them are the onion rings :)
The Turkey seems like fun.
Good thing you guys send cards to the troops. We live by West Point. See GIs all the time.

That is really nice to send cards...my cousin's husband was in Asia for 8 months (location undisclosed) and family and friends signed up to take turns to send mail each week.
Gotta have the onion rings.
Enjoy being with you via this post. thanks

Thanks for coming with!
Joe -
You are welcome! I wasn't familiar with her before reading your blog, so she's truly an association with you for me.
Joanne -
I'm just glad his mom facilitated that. I can't really take too much credit.
Sandie -
I can't believe Gilles is off! He was awesome. I agree about Cheryl and Emmett - fans are keeping him in. (I don't vote, so shouldn't complain.)
Sara -
I like to get my ingredients early, so there's not such a rush for them while braving the crowds.
Sage -
I see you are not a fan of the green bean casserole. :)
Munir -
I thought that turkey was truly inspired, with its use of a leftover plastic Halloween pumpkin.
Riot Kitty -
That's so nice.

A cleverly converted Halloween Pumpkin there-
It must feel so good to get those cards for the service soldiers abroad. That's a great project to do.
Good friends beat the fave show every time! I've missed every DWTS since work changed my days off this fall. I only see who gets kicked off after on Jimmy Kimmel Live, n he always burns their dancing shoes...
They have those french fried onions in produce here now instead of the chip isle. I'm skipping that dish this year. but I've been getting a fresh sweet potato each week n building a pile up (so expensive this year).
I have yet to see Kylie except in blogland... Love that old song.
Snaggle -
That's funny that Jimmy Kimmel burns their dancing shoes. :)
I'm thinking you're making sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving?
