Coming alive, drive by and purpose in life

- It was friend Laura's idea for our book group to read "The Lacuna" by Barbara Kingsolver, since it features Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera in the mid portion of it.  The artists come alive in the book (which I loved.)  And there she is, gracing the side of our High Museum of Atlanta.  Click here for a review of the exhibition, which features both of their works.  So vibrant!  I'll be visiting that exhibit in the next couple of weeks with said book group.

- Driving by a museum surrounded by school buses on a Wednesday morning, and bursting with children.  (The photo above was taken out of the car window, while stopped in traffic.)

- "The only thing I know...is that I paint because I need to."  - Frida Kahlo.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friends.  It's supposed to rain here (with possible snow flurries this morning.)  OK with me - more time to read.

We had freezing rain for about five minutes yesterday. Barely time for me to open my Kindle to my current book.

Enjoy your weekend, Lynn! I hear you on the snow - ick! Where is spring this year? At least the snow should give your pollen a rest!

What an amazing building, I hope you enjoy your visit to the exhibition in the next couple of weeks. Sounds good.

We are also expecting snow flurries here in the UK. Enough already!

That would be a fascinating exhibit to see!

I love Barbara Kingsolver. I haven't read The Lacuna. I'm going to see if I can find it at the library now. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love all of Barbara Kingsolver's work - fiction and non fiction. I have her latest novel waiting for a time when my head is sufficiently focused to get the most out of it. I hope the exhibition is WONDERFUL.

I am jealous, what a marvelous exhibition! If you like that kind of weather, come visit. We've had snow flurries and hail today.

Hi Lynn .. I tried to comment yesterday and Google threw me out - I got disconnected ...

Enjoy the exhibition ... it will be so interesting to see - I love Frida Kahlo .. her paintings are so no evocative ..

England is gripped under a snow blanket and major floods down in the west country ... snow isn't here yet ... but it's just unpleasant!

Cheers and enjoy the weekend and I look forward to hearing more about the Museum visit .. Hilary

Granny Annie -

I'd love to know what you are reading.

We didn't get one flake! They talked about a "wintry mix" of rain and snow, and it didn't even rain much. :)

Joe -

I agree - time for Spring!

That building was featured in a film called Manhunter in which Hannibal Lecter was in prison there - a prison with one prisoner. It as made years before Silence of the Lambs.

Mama Zen -

It's the largest exhibit of their work in one place ever. I'm looking forward to it.

I loved that book so much. I hope you do, too.

The Elephant's Child -

Flight Behavior? I have that one, too, and like you, am saving it for a time when I can savor it properly.

Riot Kitty -

I don't like that kind of weather in particular. :) It's raining here this morning and very chilly - about to get a fire going in the fireplace.

Hilary -

I first met Frida in the film bearing her name - a fascinating woman.

Joe mentioned snow over there, too - I hope it melts away quickly!

Rain makes the perfect atmosphere for a good reading session!

Serendipity and I love it when our book club (I haven't been to in about a year) reads a book and then visits a restaurant to go with the theme of the book (ex. "Waiting for Snow in Havana" = Cuban Restaurant; "Memoirs of a Geisha" - Japanese Steakhouse). So fun! I will definitely check out that book, and wish I could see the exhibit.

Snow flurries?? No way!!

Like writing we do it because we need to, eh? It has to get out.

Bet that will be a fun trip for your book group!

Joanne -

And as predicted, we got lots of it. :)

I loved the book Memoirs of a Geisha. Good idea to meet at a Japanese restaurant for the discussion. We met at a restaurant for one meeting fairly recently and we couldn't hear well, so we nixed that.

Jannie -

There were no snow flurries, as predicted. :)

Cool to get your work up on a building that way. Lucky Frieda! Sounds like a really good book to read. I need more time to have to paint lately. One more workday to go for my actual week-end off from work- Hope yours was grand-
