- An earlier than usual afternoon off work and a walk at the park near home, and choosing the shorter, shady side because it was so hot. A bluish / purple dragonfly (much like the one above) buzzed around me for much of my walk - I think that is good luck perhaps and look it up. Lots of scientific info on the internet, but I like this from the Dragonfly site, which lists some of its symbolic meanings (this one seems very Zen):
Focus on living 'IN' the moment
The dragonfly normally lives most of its life as a nymph or an immature. It flies only for a fraction of its life and usually not more than a few months. This adult dragonfly does it all in these few months and leaves nothing to be desired. This style of life symbolizes and exemplifies the virtue of living IN the moment and living life to the fullest. By living in the moment you are aware of who you are, where you are, what you are doing, what you want, what you don't and make informed choices on a moment-to-moment basis.
This ability lets you live your life without regrets like the great dragonfly.
- This message in a delightful email from coworker Claire as a thank you for helping her when she was out: #yourock
- Leaving a restaurant with friend Leisa as big raindrops start to fall and making it inside my front door just as "the bottom falls out" as my dad used to say. The sky turns very dark, wind swirling around and the power goes out. A large crack and thud, thud, reveals part of a tree has fallen in front of my front door. The good thing? New neighbor from downstairs, Mike, so concerned for the safely of others in our building, knocking on doors and checking on everyone. So nice.
But he couldn't pull that tree away - someone has to crawl under it to leave for work this morning. Wish me luck. :)
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friends!

Living in the moment by crawling under a fallen tree? : )
I'm glad you made it inside before that thing came down! I just saw a photo of my daughter's car in Raleigh- under a fallen tree. The storms were apparently much worse in those states south of us. But oh this cooler air is glorious!
Leonora -
Fortunately that tree was propped on the railing and I made my way under it with no problem. I hope your daughter's car can be salvaged and I'm glad she wasn't in it!
Yes - it is a beautiful morning - that terrible storm seems to have washed the mugginess away.
I love your dad's expression - it's just like that when the rains come. No surprise that someone else knows how much you rock, Lynn! :)
I hope a cooler weekend for us! sandie
Hi Lynn .. as Talon says love your Dad's expression .. and now clambering under a tree to get to work - that's some frustration .. but at least you weren't walking underneath it .. and I see you got through..
How lovely to have thoughtful working friends, and then your new neighbour concerned for others ..
Have a good weekend .. cheers Hilary
I love the bit about dragonflies! We have always liked them.
I am a big, big fan of the ephemeral beauty of dragon flies - thank you. I love your neighbour and am very, very pleased that you were safely inside when the tree came down.
Have a great weekend.
I truly LOVE the Dragonflies way of life....Oh to ALWAYS be, "IN THE MOMENT"....So happy you escaped bodily injury or worse, my dear!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, too!
What a cool looking creature so close-up! o', familiar with the pupae crawling around the deck.A good lesson I should use more too-
Of Course you n your blog Rock! My favorite stop over-
Feels good to be missed by trees, n also to be thought of to get checked on, nice neighbor! Hope your porch is intact too! Hope a man with a chainsaw shows up quick!
I still have tree hunks in the back yard I can't move-
Have a fun week-end
How sweet of your neighbor!! ANd I'm glad you're okay...falling trees are no joke!
You are so loving and kind even to bugs but right now every flying creature seems to be making its way into our home and we are just waiting for the next two hour time frame to set off bug bombs. Plus we have a huge dead tree in our front yard that endangers many things if and when it falls. Yikes!
Talon -
I wonder if that is a common expression - I only ever heard him say it. :) Thank you - you rock, too!
Sandie -
It was nice this weekend - not so much this morning, but I never really mind the rain.
Hilary -
Yes - that was thoughtful. I had to hide my smile when he said he wanted to "take care of you ladies" - between the two of us, we've been through a lot and don't need much help, but the thought is nice. And you never know - I'll think of something at some point. :)
Riot Kitty -
We, too. The song on my iPod when he appeared was Wishlist by Pearl Jam. I almost posted those lyrics, but they are a bit lame in places. :)
Elephant's Child -
My neighbor was showing me the tree it came from - it was sheared off at the top and was behind the building. We wonder if it was caused by a lightning strike.
Naomi -
I try to live in the moment like that, but it's not always easy, is it? :)
Snaggle -
Thank you for saying that - it makes me want to keep on doing it.
Granny Annie -
I'm loving to bugs I like, such as dragonflies. :) Spiders, not so much.
Hey - do you think that tree should come down? I don't like to think of it falling over.
Joanne -
I missed you there - yes, I'm so thankful we are all safe, too.
We open our eyes and we see things that are there all the time...the world around us that so often we take for granted. Nature never fails to astound.
i love the dragonflies way of living.
yes, live in the moment...we're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are.
great post!
big hugs
...and i'm so glad you're ok, my friend!
