Folk School festival, colorful day and hanging out

- A quick trip to western North Carolina to join my sister and her friend at the John C. Campbell Folk School 40th Fall Festival.  It was fun to sit on hay bales and watch musical performances, such as the sweet voices of the Cane Creek Cliff Dwellers above.

- Purveyors of pottery, baskets, quilts, etc. etc. lined the festival barn and pathways throughout the folk school grounds.

- A rag man presided over a booth selling treats, such as scones and shortbread.

- A purveyor of hats hosts a musical jam session.  Note the couple in the upper left taking a "selfie" - a camera phone portrait of themselves.  (As always - click to enlarge for more detail.)

- There they are again - looking at the outcome on the phone.  The music was lovely and the young man in the blue shirt there with his back to me had been clogging with other dancers onstage just an hour before.  A lovely day and then back home.

Artists used to do self portraits. Now we get selfies!

A wonderful time is had by all. My brother attended a blue grass festival this past weekend and it is the one time of the year he looks like a vagabond. He really lets down his hair (though he is bald) and it does my heart good to see him celebrate life on his own terms rather than the terms of others. (Yes,he is a minister)

Hope you celebrated life too:)

The rag man is fascinating. I'm not sure whether I like him or not. I certainly wouldn't like to run into him in the dark!

That looks like it was a lot of fun....The Rag Man looks quite Marvelous....I guess being able to take pictures of yourself is getting more and more popular with Cell Phones...This digital age is fantastic, isn't it?

That looks like a fabulous day. And I hope the couple engrossed with their selfies also took time to appreciate the atmosphere.

Ahhh, the photo bomb selfie couple is precious!!

Great shots all. I remember you showing some of this festival last year too.

Some one will no doubt hook some rag rugs with those. I love them! rag rugs, that is. Not too long ago Jim was able to snag 3 different ones at a yard sale, each about 3' by 5' and I am enjoying them a lot. 1 is just inside our entrance, 1 in front of the kitchen sink and the other hiding the still-unsanded and still-unstained new floor boards under the archway between the kitchen and dining room. Very grateful for how much neater that part of the floor looks now! And rag rugs impart such a cosy feel.

I love these kinds of events. Being from up north, the novelty of bluegrass music, clogging and all that stuff still hasn't lost its charm.

Doesn't it itch to sit on bales of hay? Just curious.

FB -

So true - I tried to take one of my straightened hair a few weeks ago, but my face always looked so intent on getting that phone angle right that it looked funny. :)

Granny Annie -

That's neat that he can let his hair down like that.

Sparkling Red -

Me either!

Take good care. :)

Naomi -

It was fun, but best of all was seeing my sister, and my aunt and uncle. I had not seen my aunt and uncle since my mother's funeral in early 2012, so I enjoyed those bear hugs.

Betty -

Someone dresses up like that rag man and dances on the stage during the festival, but we missed that.

Elephant's Child -

I hope so, too.

Jannie -

Not last year - last time I went to this one was 2010, but I am a serial festival-goer, so no telling. :)

I like rag rugs, too. I have a dandy one in my bathroom.

Leonora -

I'll bet there are lots around your area.

Not if you're wearing clothes. :)

Hilary -

Me, too. Cheers to you!

Lee -

It was and you, too.

I love your picture posts. It's so much fun to see where you've been. This looks like it was a lot of fun. I liked the rag man and the couple taking the picture of themselves.

It sounds like you enjoyed your day and the music. What more can be said?

Looks like a place I'd like to hangout for the tunes n goods. Does the ragMan make rugs?
Good to have such diverse talents-

Looks warm too- we're all in hoodies here this week! The wind was biting cold today. No shorts here!

Sara -

I loved that day. Since my parents have both passed away, my sister and I try to see each other at least once a month (or I start feeling a little orphanish.) :)

Snaggle -

No the rag man dances! It's cooling off here a bit, too.

Joe -

Thank you - I love to do things like that.
