It's pretty telling about the week I've had when all I have to post about is a sandwich, cheese and bad traffic. :) But here goes anyway!
-Tuesday was National Sandwich Day, so I went to Jersey Mike's - my favorite submarine sandwich near my office. This is the #4 regular served "Mike's Way" (onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olive oil blend, red wine vinegar and spices). The #4 isn't on the menu, but was the featured sub a couple of years ago, so they still make it for me. The employees behind the counter were all smiling at me when I walked in on Tuesday and the lead sandwich maker said, "#4?" and pointed up to the sign above him. It's the featured sub once again. :)
- I like to go through the cheese "remnant" basket in the Whole Food cheese shop. It's a great way to sample interesting looking cheeses at a low price. Wednesday lunch was Cotswold cheese - I always seem to love cheese from the UK. "Cotswold is a variation of Double Gloucester, which has been supplemented with chopped onions and chives for added flavour. Cotswold originates in Gloucestershire County of England." It was delicious and a perfect lunch with a cup of soup on a rainy day.
- Friend Caroline and I were grumbling last night about driving in rainy traffic this week (she referred to us as "the grumpy travelers" to another friend) :). It took me 1.5 hours to go 20 miles yesterday morning and the same in the evening - pretty common in the rain and not the worst commute in the Atlanta area I've heard of, by any means. In the morning, a song by 21 Pilots came on the radio and I really listened to the lyrics. It's called "Stressed Out" - the link to the video is here. I love that their parents are included in the video! Somehow this song made my morning go better, as I passed accidents and arrived safely at work (only 1/2 hour late) in the rain.
It's supposed to rain until the middle of next week. I think I might go to Jersey Mike's for lunch again today - where smiling faces always await me. Have a great weekend, my friends!

A good submarine sandwich is no trifling thing! ;-)
A cheese remnant basket? I would so be there. Often.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Good looking sandwiches, but the rain is getting old!
Hi Lynn - looks as though you enjoy their sandwich offerings. The cheese remnant basket - we have a cheese shop on Victoria Station that sells that sort of thing ...
The Cotswolds is an area and covers quite a few counties of which Gloucester is one of the main ones. I imagine the tangy taste would go really well with a good soup.
It's just plain wet here ... but traffic is just a nuisance - and I'm quite glad I don't commute ... driving back from the west country was a terrible journey! London is always full of jams ... I try the bus sometimes and this time had to get out and walk to the tube - there'd been an accident.
Drive safely on your commute and enjoy those English cheeses and Jersey Mike's sandwiches! Cheers Hilary
I love cheese; I always have done so. A home is not a home, no matter how humble or how grand it may be without a pile of cheese in the fridge!! And your special sandwich looks very tempting, too. To be met with smiling faces when shopping makes shopping worthwhile, I believe!
The rain certainly did slow down the traffic flow...that's when you need to whistle a tune or three while driving to work and back home again...but you don't have to dress up as one of the Seven Dwarfs while doing so! :)
My daughter and I have been on a no-dairy challenge, which lasts a month. It will be a month next Sunday. I have to tell you, it hasn't been that difficult but that pic of your cheese made my mouth water a bit, I must say.
Jersey Mike's is awesome! Love their soft, tasty bread! We have one down the street and even bought some of their famous red relish. It has a little kick to it and so good on sandwiches.
Wishing you a sun-shiny day, my friend! Next week I'll join you for cheese and crackers...with a little red vino, of course.
You are right about the cheese in England, it IS wonderful!
AND you are right about this rainy weather and traffic, it is AWFUL!
On cheese, I was thrilled to see that someone got to my blog by typing in "Five Counties Cheese", look it up, it will make you drool!
Very cool on how the sandwich shop remembers what you like to order and simply asks a one word question.
There's a local shop that I've gone to for decades. I don't go a lot because their stuff is super expensive (a half goes for about $7-ish), but whenever I go in, they always ask if I want the usual, which is a genoa with provolone, tomato, lettuce, green and red peppers garnished with oil and vinegar.

It is amazing how quickly we can get behind on blog commenting. I always read but sometimes the morning just goes too fast. I loved the pink Thunderbird and would have been at your house for Halloween treats because I love Tootsie pops. Now I just want to know how to get to Jersey Mikes:-)
That sandwich does look mighty fine I have to say! I treat myself to one sandwich a week and normally go for a Ploughmans. Salad, cheese and pickle.
See? You'd be used to Portland weather. Come visit!
The rain has been pouring down all day here in Auckland :(
