They said we would have 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Atlanta area overnight. Much excitement around town, with everyone stocking up on food to get them through, but I think it turned out to be 3/10" - something like that. There is a layer of ice that is not expected to melt until next week, so we'll muddle through that.
But all of the outdoor potted plants got to come in. The temperature won't be above freezing until next Tuesday, so in they stay until then.
And Happy New Year, my friends. I made this for New Year's Day. It's an old tradition of eating black-eyed peas, greens (such as the collards here), and pork (here we have sausage.) The black-eyed peas symbolize coins and the collards symbolize green dollars. The pork is for flavoring, I think. I turn it into a stew. It's thought that if you eat these items on New Year's, you'll have prosperity for the coming year. Here's hoping. :)

My cousin who lives in Peachtree Corners said they didn't get snow either, Lynne. Here in Nashua, NH we are getting snow now and it's starting to pile up. As we lived in VA for 12 years we know all about the tradition of collard greens and black eyed peas that are supposed to bring luck in the new year. Hope that the stew brings you good fortune in 2017...it looked delicious!

Yikes! Hope you don't have to drive anywhere. We have had three snowstorms here this winter so far, each one with ice - yuck. Although the cats are fascinated by the sight of snow.
I always get a chuckle whenever the threat of snowstorm/nor'easter comes down the road. People go bananas for food, gas, etc. etc. etc., then more often than not, it winds up being far less than what was forecasted.

I came because I saw your name on Naomi’s blog “Here in the Hills.” In case you are wondering about Naomi, I talked to her today and when she said she had no energy to go on her blog I offered to write a comment for all to read then realized she still has to approve it, so don’t know when it will appear. This is what I wrote “This afternoon Tuesday January 10, 2017, I had a good telephone conversation with our dear friend Naomi. She has been having health issues that have kept her occupied and have taken much of her strength. In addition she has lost many dear friends during 2016 and does not feel up to writing a fun post. Hopefully, as her strength comes back she will come back to her blog.” Just in case, I thought you might like to know.
I live in West Cobb, between Marietta, Acworth and Kennesaw, so I know what you mean about the snow/ice. This morning my driveway was still icy. But it will be warm again soon.
Wait til you see how much snow we shoveled here. Will post Thursday. Cold until today here too. Melting slush be be around for awhile. My plants are still out there under plastic. Stew looks yummy. Hope you get all that cash to play with too!
