Happy mail, still and angel

- Happy mail in the form of a book parcel from friend Jannie, accompanied by a beautiful card of Claude Monet's Three Trees. She is generously loaning me her signed copy of Thomma Lyn Grindstaff's debut novel, Mirror Blue AND included a bonus book. How fun is that? And smiling at Thomma Lyn's upside down inscription on the cover page to Jannie, with the explanation that it is upside down because she is left-handed.

- A young lady who works at my gym sharing with me her college saga that has lead her to attend a nearby community college coming up this fall. She started out at my first school, Georgia College & State University, in my home town. I tell her that I loved it because of the green lawns under leafy trees and that my English professor would take our 20-member group outside to sit in a circle and have class. She says they still do that.

- Working with students by email at the University of Wisconsin Upward Bound program to have a couple of yearbooks printed for the group excursion that landed them in Atlanta this week. Wanting to deliver them myself so I can finally meet them, I get a little lost in busy downtown Atlanta (big GPS failure); finally asking a cab driver where the hotel is. He leads me down city streets, pauses in front of the hotel, lowers his window and points. He drives away with a wave. There are angels everywhere.

Jannie is a mail faery! I received her copy of Quite A Year For Plums yesterday. lol @ Thomma Lyn's upside down left-hand writing!

Nice to know some things haven't changed. English under the shade of the trees sounds perfect.

You're right - angels are everywhere.

Talon -

She is a mail faery! Good description of Jannie.

Loved that school - I keep calling them for printing so I can go hang around down there.

And the rest of the story - it was pouring down rain, too. What a nice man to help me.

Cathy -

Thank you - yes, I had good encounters this week for sure.

I never had a prof take us out on a lawn, boo hoo. But I guess I've turned out semi-kinda okay despite it.

xoxo -- the mail faerie. ;)

Oh, I did have a prof kick my butt near a shady sidewalk once. Does that count? :)

Mail faerie Jannie -

I think you turned out OK, for sure! No butt kicking for faeries. :)

Hi Lynn,
That Jannie, the mail faery...she sure has a way of making people smile. See, I'm doing it here, right now! And then...a connection to a Wisconsin school...doubly smiling!!

Lance -

I love it that anything posted here could make you smile. Jannie Funster does have that smile-inducing ability, as do you!

The U of Wisconsin folks could not have been nicer. I was so frazzled, trying to find a hidden Holiday Inn in a storm, but when I got there it was so much fun to see the bus loading with young adults on their way to an excursion and to send them off with their yearbooks.

There's something magic about reading under a tree on a pretty college campus!

Mama Zen -

Absolutely. The urban campus I finally graduated from is all concrete and pavement, but I loved it, too.

Oh, Lynn, did you notice the little kitty teeth marks on the upper left corner of Mirror Blue, from when I was taking a pic of Kit-kat with it?

Lynn said...

Jannie -

I did notice! :) I was going to try and pose the book with Sophie in return, but she was annoyed that I had just made her swallow a pill, so figured I shouldn't press my luck.

How fun to get your care package from Jannie!

I like the image of green lawn under leafy trees; my favorite reading hangout. I wish we still live in a college town. I could go find a shady spot and pretend to be a student for a day.

Jewel -

It was fun to get the package - a bright spot in a crazy week.

Yes - that is a beautiful college campus - maybe I'll take more pictures there next time I'm down...

Happy Saturday!

Wow, I recognize that book! LOL! :-D Glad you got a kick out of the inscription. Heh. It's definitely an interesting experience to sign a smallish book when you're left-handed! A lefty's gotta figure out her own way. :)

I hope you enjoy the story!

Thomma Lyn -

I'm glad you stopped by and saw your book pictured in my living room. The traveling novel. I look forward to reading it and returning it safely to Jannie. Looks as if it is getting pretty good reviews! Cheers!
