Cracks & Crossings, fun mail and surprise
- The last of the seminary artwork from two weekends ago. This one by an American artist, Barry Krammes, Of Cracks and Crossings, was thought provoking, to say the least.
- Happy mail in the form of a subscription to Food & Wine magazine that I did not ask for. A phone call reveals nothing except it was given to me by an organization I have no involvement with. Fortunately they know what I like!
- Extra fun mail. A postcard inviting me to save the date for a fund-raiser for The Center for the Visually Impaired they are calling "True Blue Do." The featured musical act that evening will be a band called "The Macular Dengenerates." I am astounded to learn just now from a Google search, that Dr. Hamilton, who performed my eye surgery two weeks ago, is the drummer. They are the "house band" of Eye Consultants of Atlanta.
I hope your weekend is full of fun and thought provoking things!

The Macular Degenerates, lol. Jim's mom had M D. Of course she was 94 when diagnosed, so she'd seen very well for a long time, died at 97.
True Blue Do, has a great ring to it!!

Jannie -
My mom has it, as well as my uncle. It's hereditary, I think. My company prints materials for the CVI, so that's why I got the invite. I might just be inspired to go no knowing Dr. H is in the band. I love the humor behind their name. :)

Blue Bunny -
A good harestyle for you, true blue bunny! Happy weekend to you, too!
xoxoxo
What a great band name!
The artist's description of his piece was even more interesting than the actual art.
I love it - having fun while shedding some light on serious eye conditions!
Mama Zen -
I thought so, too. It made me laugh out loud. My eye surgeon seems like a bit of a shy man, so I am a little surprised at this and can't wait to talk to him about it during our appointment in March.

At first I thought that was supposed to depict some sort of puppet show. :)
I had to laugh at "the Macular Degenerates." Awesome title. I hope their playing is as good. ;)
How wonderful that you received a subscription that's just right for you! I love it when the universe doles out little gifts, just because. :)
That artwork is so busy, I'm not sure I got much -- and the explanation was *way* too much. "Simplicity in all things" might have been a great motto when the artist was editing his piece.
Meredith -
The description of the artwork sounds a bit lofty to me, but I did find it interesting. And it was a traffic stopper.
Yes - the universe doled out that magazine to me. When I called they said it was because of my association with VistaPrint or eharmony - neither of which I have anything to do with ever. So still puzzled over that. :)
That seminary has so much neat art! Good pics.
Thanks RK!
What a fun multi-material piece! I love that open door- n the scroll! how neat! that IS a wild description-
Free mags! I once won a subscription on line, it ended up changing companies/ mags n went on for years- Good for clipping n making montages too- Enjoy the recipes n restaurant reviews!
You have a drummer eye doc? Cool! One whole branch of my Moms family has macular degeneration- n my brother recently had a macular tear take place- repaired. Good cause!
I once donated a blood sample to Bascom-Palmer Inst for their genetic research study on it-

I am glad you enjoyed the artwork - I sure had fun studying it in person.
Yes - I'll enjoy that magazine while it lasts. :)
And that is so interesting that you were studied for macular degeneration - my mom has the kind that is best to have, but my uncle has the bad kind, in which you lose your vision. I can't wait to talk to my doc about his music.
