Retreat, happy and fortunate

- Attending a retreat at Columbia Theological Seminary over the weekend, ending in a simple communion service held in this chapel, in which women sat in a circle and served each other.

- Having a pesky non-age related cataract removed on my birthday last Thursday (of all things! - surgery on your birthday! - what was I thinking? everyone said that :)). The highlight - the surgeon leaning over me and singing Happy Birthday before he got started.

- Feeling so fortunate to have friends like Barbara G and Leisa to drive me to surgery and post-op appointments respectively and in the rain. And the good thing - lunch after both. Highlights - apple cobbler with ice cream on one day and triple cheese macaroni the next. Yum.

Happy belated birthday!

I'm so glad they removed your cataract, so you can see properly. The image that popped into my head of the surgeon singing to you was a good way to start a Monday! ;)

Apple cobbler with ice cream is my kind of indulgence. How wonderful you had good friends to be there for you when you needed them -- and that you had the sense to recognize the blessing. So often I do forget to be grateful for those everyday miracles: friends. :)

A gift of clear vision is a perfect birthday present. I'm glad it was successful!

Apples and ice cream - they belong together :)

Hey, happy late b.day! Sorry I didn't know. Your friends are right, btw! Birthdays are for spoiling, not surgery :)

I have to take my father to have his cataract removed. I said I'd happily drive him there but said "please don't go into the details of the operation if you want to arrive back home safely!"

I've come over from The Zen of Motherhood for a visit. You have a lovely blog. I love the idea of writing down at least three beautiful things each day. I'm very big on gratitude, it works wonders on the mind and spirit.

Sophie is a cutie. I shall come again.

You didn't mention your birthday last Thursday!

Happy Birthday, Lynn!

Kenju -

Thank you!

Meredith -

And he seems like such a shy man, too. I guess he wasn't feeling as shy with me that day, with my face all covered and only my eye showing through. :)

My family is all out of town so I knew I could call on friends. Friends are Miracles.

Talon -

A perfect gift. And I can see great. The dessert was delicious!

Jannie Muffin -

Thank you! xoxo

Riot Kitty -

It was getting so bad that I was desperate for it to come out, so when I had the opportunity to have it taken out, albeit on my birthday, I jumped at the chance. The best birthday gift in the world - clear vision in that eye. It is like a miracle.

Joe -

But the singing was a good detail, no?

Lady M -

Welcome - I am so glad you came by! I will come by your blog shortly. Sophie is a darling, for sure.

Mama Zen -

Because I was patched up on Friday - I just did a quick one-eyed post and didn't plan to post about my birthday, but the surgeon singing was too good to pass up. :)

And I know they miss you, too. I was there today meeting about the printing of the Journal for Preachers. I love to go over there.

Thanks and thank you!

Sounds like the special day wasn't so bad after all- n you got more sight as a bonus!
I've a friend with a congenital cataract- perhaps I should suggest the surgery you had if it goes well for you-

That's what my cataract was. And I am 100% likely to get one in the other eye at some point.

I am almost afraid to put it in writing, but my vision came out 20/20 after the surgery. Better than it ever was - I could read the bottom line on the eye chart on Tuesday. I will need readers for close vision still because of the astigmatism in my left eye, but I am delighted. Recommended.
