- Attending a retreat at Columbia Theological Seminary over the weekend, ending in a simple communion service held in this chapel, in which women sat in a circle and served each other. - Having a pesky non-age related cataract removed on my birthday last Thursday (of all things! - surgery on your birthday! - what was I thinking? everyone said that :)). The highlight - the surgeon leaning over me and singing Happy Birthday before he got started.
- Feeling so fortunate to have friends like Barbara G and Leisa to drive me to surgery and post-op appointments respectively and in the rain. And the good thing - lunch after both. Highlights - apple cobbler with ice cream on one day and triple cheese macaroni the next. Yum.

I'm so glad they removed your cataract, so you can see properly. The image that popped into my head of the surgeon singing to you was a good way to start a Monday! ;)
Apple cobbler with ice cream is my kind of indulgence. How wonderful you had good friends to be there for you when you needed them -- and that you had the sense to recognize the blessing. So often I do forget to be grateful for those everyday miracles: friends. :)

I have to take my father to have his cataract removed. I said I'd happily drive him there but said "please don't go into the details of the operation if you want to arrive back home safely!"
I've come over from The Zen of Motherhood for a visit. You have a lovely blog. I love the idea of writing down at least three beautiful things each day. I'm very big on gratitude, it works wonders on the mind and spirit.

It was getting so bad that I was desperate for it to come out, so when I had the opportunity to have it taken out, albeit on my birthday, I jumped at the chance. The best birthday gift in the world - clear vision in that eye. It is like a miracle.

That's what my cataract was. And I am 100% likely to get one in the other eye at some point.
I am almost afraid to put it in writing, but my vision came out 20/20 after the surgery. Better than it ever was - I could read the bottom line on the eye chart on Tuesday. I will need readers for close vision still because of the astigmatism in my left eye, but I am delighted. Recommended.
