No resolutions, eat more chocolate and oranges

Happy 2012, friends! Here are some favorite quotes about making resolutions, something I stopped doing because I NEVER keep them, despite good intentions. Well - I do resolve to eat more chocolate in 2012. Seems as though I'm always displaying oranges here this time of year - they are so good and I vow to eat more of them, too.

- I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you? Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second. ~Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones's Diary

- Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account. ~Oscar Wilde

- Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go. ~Brooks Atkinson

LOVE this quote. And, I got a dark chocolate orange in my stocking. I wish I could give it to you. I'm still working on my resolution list. I believe I'm going to put, smile more often, on my list. :)

I like that quote by Oscar Wilde, too. The chocolate 'orange' is too much! R U back at work, Lynn?

We were supposed to get snow today, but...so far NO SNOW; just 45-50 MPH steady gusts of wind (day and night.)
I keep saying that I am going to take my camera out and record a video of the howling/blowing wind. It is a mountain phenomenon that everyone should hear!!!!

I'm with you on that chocolate resolution, Lynn!!!!

Happy New Year, Lynn!

I resolve to do things when the time is right and that never seems to coincide with a calendar flip. :)

Great New Years quotes! I love that you plan to eat more chocolate! You know how to LIVE life, chica!! :D

Happy Monday!

Great quotes! I also never make New Year's resolutions. There's a good quote on your chocolate orange that could be a new year's motto- "Whack and unwrap" He, he.
I also like your year in photos.

Sweet thoughts. That Wilde was quite a character I think.

I am resolved to keep blogging, singing, walking, eating chocolate too, and touching up my roots every 6 weeks or so.

Both wonderful quotes. I think I am going to try and live more in the moment. No agonising over the past or dreading what the future might bring.

Smiling more is a good thing! And I do love me some dark chocolate. I have an open bag of Dove dark chocolate on my desk here at home. :)

No - I had today off - back to work tomorrow.

We have gusty winds today, too, and it's cold. I can only imagine how it sounds in the mountains! It blew over my lattice back planter on my porch - I had to tie it to the porch railing this morning.

Lance -

Happy New Year, Lance!

John -

Thanks John. :)

Talon -

That is an excellent resolution!

That's what it's all about - living life. :) I think you do a lot that, too, my friend.

Leonora -

Have you ever had a chocolate orange? So good - and it falls apart in sections, just like an orange.

Jannie -

I hear you on that root thing. :)

BragonDorn -

Thank you. :)

The Elephant's Child -

That sounds like a wonderful way to start the year. Hope you are well today.

I resolve to give up New Year's resolutions. Oh wait, I already did.

Me, too - loved that book. :)

A good resolution. I do remember that you don't like the new year holiday. It's over (finally) - back to work for me this morning.

Sage -

That is a great quote. :)

A chocolate orange covers the best of both worlds.

As for me, I keep my resolutions relatively simple.

I simply try to get at least one thing published for the year.

I'm definitely up for more chocolate oranges this year! Well apart from the fact my diet started today! :( I've gained a few pounds over the holidays.

Happy New Year Lynn!!!

I used to write resolutions EVERY year and then would read them on the next new year. I quickly discovered this depressed me and immediately STOPPED the practice.

All too often most the resolutions I made at the beginning of the year never bloomed, but focusing on these made me forget the wild flowers that DID bloom.

So, now I let this life's garden find it's own "flowers" and then say thanks for those that bloomed:~)

BTW giving up chocolate has never been one of my resolutions. I knew ages ago that was totally impossible! I love your picture of the oranges!

I've always loved that quote from Bridget Jones!

Happy New Year! Yes - I'm semi-dieting, too. That means I'm not eating quite as much as I did the last two weeks. :)

Sara -

Welcome back! I like the thought of those blooms. Especially on a shivering day like today.

Mama Zen -

I might have used that one before - it's very funny to me. :)

I never make them; that way I don't have to feel badly about breaking them.

Thanks for the advice. I unplugged the cable box and now it works fine!!

Love the Oscar Wilde quote. I'm not writing any checks because they would all bounce:) Chocolate and orange are my most favorite combined flavors.

Lynn, I guess it is like rebooting the computer when it runs slowly. Thanks again!

I'm so glad that worked! And I'm especially happy you didn't have to go out when you are not feeling good to deal with it.

Hope you are better this morning.

Granny Annie -

Chocolate and orange together - yum.

Cloudia -

Aloha, my friend.

I hope this is your year, Snaggle!
