R is for River, Resting and Resurgens

 - The Hiawassee River just at the bend of it in Clay County, North Carolina.  Sometimes when I'm particularly stressed out, I close my eyes and can just hear the whisper of the river flowing by.

- These dogs having a little rest while their owners shopped in downtown Thomasville, Georgia, a truly beautiful small town shopping area.  I like how the dog on the right made the most of the shade under the bench.  :)

- This is the seal of the city of Atlanta, with its motto "Resurgens" which is Latin for "rising again."  When Atlanta was burned to the ground by Union troops toward the end of the Civil War in 1864, the residents decided to rebuild.  Hence the adoption of the image of the mythical Phoenix rising from the ashes to live again.  This seal adorns many of the buildings and lampposts in Atlanta.

Day 18 of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, featuring the letter "R."  Three things that give me pleasure.  Happy Friday!

It has always disturbed me that the Union troops burned things down to "win." I love this symbol. And love the doggies!

I love the serenity of the river, the resting dogs and the phoenix rising. Thank you. Lots.

A little whispering fountain on your porch or deck would be just the thing when you can't be near the river.
Atlanta certainly did rise again! I like that emblem.

That seal is interesting, Lynn. May your weekend be royal and regal in its nature....

What? No quote from a pirate? "R-r-r-r-r-r-g"

We are close to rivers (Spring River and Neosho River) and hundreds of streams as well as sitting on Grand Lake O'The Cherokees. Love, love the peacefulness of water running and when the lake is perfectly still.

Our dog Slim will run, and run, run and then rest. She can sure rest soundly after her exercise.

Resurgens will be the title of my next blog if I decide to start all over. Great information!

Wait, did I miss "Q"? Where the heck have I been?

Rising from the ashes. that's a great seal and motto. I believe how one rises after falling is the greatest revelation of character. You are rocking the A, B, C's. :)

Riot Kitty -

I guess it was smart of them to burn Atlanta because it was the railroad hub and there was a munitions factory, too. But I think it must have been a huge morale killer - can you just imagine? When Union troops were in Milledgeville, they stabled their horses inside the Episcopal church and reportedly poured syrup down the organ pipes. You can still see the hoof prints in the this church on the wooden floor.

The Elephant's Child -

This was something of a serene post. Thank you.

Leonora -

That's a great idea! I can't use my deck right now because of my nesting birds. The babies have hatched and mom and dad are very busy bringing them things to eat. I love watching them, but will be glad when I can use my deck again.

Thank you - I like that - royal and regal. :)

Joanne -

It is. Hey - I'm posting about your red lentil soup tomorrow.

Granny Annie -

That would have been good! :)

I love all bodies of water, too, but this one in particular. The first thing I do when I arrive at the cabin is get out of the car and stand at the banks of the river and just take it in.

Some women were walking in and out of shops and these guys just dropped every time, as if they were so tired. One of them actually came out and was alarmed that I was taking their picture. I assured her I meant no harm. :)

I will read that Resurgens blog if you write it!

I missed you on Q, but saw you there today.

Changes -

I love it, too.

True and thank you.

Ha ha, the shot of the dog laying out in the shade cracks me up. :D

I meant "love" the shot.

That River does look relaxing. Those dogs manage to make cement look comfortable! Let's hope the Pheonix isin't needed there again anytime soon- but a nifty Resurgence seal.

Thank you!

Sandie -

Thanks for coming by!

Joe -

He was loving that shade. The one on the left seemed in charge of watching for the ladies to return.

Snaggle -

It is relaxing - I love to go there.

Hi Lynn - the river looks wonderfully clear ... while the dogs resting - sensible creatures - and your Phoenix Rising - what a good way to remember the time - putting the seal onto lampposts and buildings ...

Cheers Hilary

I kept seeing the Resurgens seal all over the place and finally looked it up. This was new information for me, too.
