Bowl of deliciousness, new mama and a good thing

- This bowl of deliciousness was my dinner.  My sister asked if I had any special requests for Thanksgiving and I said, "brussel sprouts."  She replied, "But then you would be the only one eating them."  Sigh.  They don't know what they are missing.  I roasted them in my grandfather's cast iron skillet per the Simply Recipes blog.  Click here for the recipe.  I roasted them about five minutes longer than the recipe says to get that extra brown color.

- More from the weekend:  I ask my niece, Monroe's mother, what he will call her.  She says she actually hadn't thought about that and went over the possible choices.  She settles on "Mama" - "yes, that feels right."

- After a not so good day at work, a coworker reminds me to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" as I am leaving.  I reply, "that's a Good Thing" automatically.  :)

"Mama" is what Bosco calls me. (Well, so okay, I hold up both ends of the conversation; but that's only because I always know what he wants to say!)

Roasted brussel sprouts are so good. Your pic makes my mouth water. Sorry about the not so good day at work. I know what those are like. :)

You would have had to share those brussel sprouts with me! I love them and will look up the recipe for the ones you fixed. YUM!

My daughter called me Mommy when she wanted something and Mother when she was angry with me. My son called me "Babe" because he loved to watch me explode.

As it turned out, it was a Good Thing that the Grinch Stole Christmas.

I'm generally the only person who eats brussels sprouts on T-Day also...everyone else just has weird taste buds. :P

My husband roasts brussel sprouts cut in half (like that) in a red wine sauce of some sort. They turn out heavenly; as good as they can be!

Those brussel sprouts look SO good! How can anyone not like brussel sprouts?

I have to comment on Fireblossom. I have the same thing with Aggie and I also hold up both ends of that conversation...well, occasionally she gets a few meows in here and there.

Now to your delightful and yummy post. I don't like Brussels Sprouts, but those sure did look good. I like roasted vegetables a lot.

I was always "mom" to my kids, but it is interesting that you gave Monroe a choice. We don't think about doing this with kids very often. Who knows they want to call us something entirely different...as long as they keep it clean:~)

I haven't watched the Grinch is way too long. I probably missed it now. I love the part where his heart gets big and the dog...who couldn't love that little dog.

I hope you had a good holiday.

Oh - I like that Bosco calls you Mama!

happygirl -

Thank you - it's better today. :)

Granny Annie -

They were easy to do - I already bought some more to make that again. So good.

Your son is funny! My older sister always called our mother "mother." I referred to her as Mom a lot, but called her Mama.

I agree!

Joanne -

My sister says she made them once and they were bitter - I need to make them for her next time we are together.

Yum - a red wine sauce. YUM.

Mama Zen -

I'm saying!

Sara -

I used to do that with my cats when I had them. :)

I love the scene in the Grinch when the dog is sitting on the back of the sleigh and waves at the Grinch. I laugh every time.

You just reminded me of a really funny story involving Brussels sprouts...remind me to e-mail it to you.

Speaking of the Grinch, our new(ish) kitty, Vasil, has eyebrow whiskers just like the Whos. How weird is that?

I noticed not many people enjoyed brussels sprouts and only at sadly, local supermarket don't sell them :(

Happy Belated Thanksgiving :)

Sorry no update at my blog as I'm facing some hiccups :(

Darn, I hope I didn't miss the only showing of The Grinch this year.

Mama -- more of a Southern title, I believe.

I like to cook pretty-much everything about 5 mins longer than recommended, like pizza, Grandma's Chicken & Rice Bake, and salmon. Tho I'm learning cookies and macaroni probably should be not overdone -- 5 mins on those can spell disaster. :)

Such an interesting Thanks Day meal choice- you eat so healthy! Bet it was delish.
Now I hope "Mama" can get the baby to call her that. I ended up being "Mom." I had a friend growing up in a large family who had to call hers "Mother."
Ever since you reported about going to that play I've wanted to see it. At least I can again watch my Grinch video with Jim Carey this year! I'm so happy to have VHS options again. I hope the rest of your work-week goes much better!

Hi Lynn .. I love Brussel sprouts and often just eat them for a meal - such a good veggie ... the family have to cook more for me when I'm around .. but I do our sprouts - so I know there'll be sufficient for me on Christmas Day!!

Fried up left over brussels and chopped potato - so good .. with a bit of bacon or good sausage!

Cheers Hilary

I have to say although I don't love Brussel sprouts, I can't say I hate them either. It really does depend how they are cooked, and I bet yours tasted lovely. :)

Lynn, In regard to your other comment, I just tried to start another blog and it still 'blocks' me saying that I've reached my picaso limit and will not let me upload. So apparently I pay or...it's done. It must be a 'thing' they do to receive income after a certain period of time and # of uploads....I am thinking!

Lynn~Do you know...if I do switch over to WordPress can you still link to me? (I wonder.) I don't want to loose my blogging friends....you know?

Found the answer to my own question. :-) (No worry.)WordPress can link to blogger.com but apparently WordPress
is backlogged or has a waiting period (or something not desirable.)

My mother told me that I couldn't be a vegetarian because I don't like brussel sprouts. She was wrong. That said, she belonged to the school which boiled them, and then boiled them some more. My father referred to them as 'baby garbage' and I wouldn't have argued. Some day I will try again. Perhaps.

LG, uh oh! that really stinks. I tried Tumblr last year but the disqus comments wouldn't work n it kept crashing my system.

You could start a new free email (hotmail, yahoo) n sign up as a different user at a new url, n then link the old page on your new one, calling them 1 and 2. Then put a text only link post to the new blog on your old one.

I hope your day improved after you got home. There's many a day when my head hits the pillow at night and the thing I am most thankful for is that this day is done : )
Love, love, love brussels sprouts! Thanks to your photo, you know what I'll be purchasing at the market today! (They weren't part of our Thanksgiving fare.)

Riot Kitty -

Here's your reminder. :) And I need to have another look at photos of Vasil - a fun kitty and not at all Grinch-like, I'm thinking.

Shionge -

It is always good to see you and hope you are well.

Hilary -

That's exactly what I did - had them for a meal. I saw a recipe for Brussel Sprouts hash, too, that I might try.

Joe -

Lovely. :)

I think Jannie's blog is on WordPress and I've never had a problem commenting. I don't really use Google reader much - I just keep the blogs I like to read linked at the right of my blog and read them as I see they are updated. That gets me into trouble sometimes, because I miss a few doing it that way. Let me know what you decide to do and hope to see you here anyway, my friend.

The Elephant's Child -

I wish I was near Canberra to bring you some of these. So good. :)

And I think your mum was wrong!

Snaggle -

Good advice for lg - I hope she comes back to these comments to see it.

Leonora -

I like that I inspired that! Post a photo of yours, I hope.

Looks delicious. I copied the recipe so I can try it too. I really enjoyed your blog. We seem to have some of the same interests.
