Hiwassee River, watching the world go by and purple

- It's almost as if it has forgotten how to not rain!  :)  It rained the whole time during the long weekend, but that's OK - the river is still gorgeous and serene, as always.

- This Carolina Wren always seemed to be watching the river go by from its perch on the deck beyond the screened porch.  See it?  Click to enlarge.

- Everything is so green after all the rain.  Love the purple flowers on the Hosta in front of the tree there.  I didn't want to leave, but it was good to get home, too.

The river looks high! I love the mood of rain and I'm glad it didn't ruin your time away. I think we are overdue for some dry, sunny days though : )

Water's high. But as long as it doesn't flood, the river can be a soulful place.

Leonora -

It's very high. And I worked with the raining - I even walked with my umbrella at the dam on Friday and Saturday.

Sage -

The house is sitting up high enough that it doesn't flood. The swift current was good for the tubers and kayakers going by.

Lovely photos, but I do so hope that the house is safe and secure from rising waters.

Unusual that it's sunnier there than here! It looks pretty though.

Naomi -

There was low lying fog on it in the morning - really beautiful. Thank you - about the purple flower photo - I liked that one, too.

In all the years it's been there, it's never come close to flooding, but they do have new regulations about building, that the houses must be back many more feet from the river than this one. My sis's house is grandfathered in.

Riot Kitty -

It's sunnier there, you mean? Yes - this was very Portland like weather. :)

Sandie -

Yes - and we had a little break in the rain yesterday, thankfully. :)

The wren has the perfect vantage point. Wow - the river was seriously high, Lynn!

Gorgeous pictures! I think that I could live on that deck.

One of the things that always strikes me as we fly back into London, is just how green everything looks. It's not really very surprising when you think of the amount of rain we have. But now we are having a heatwave and even in a few days the grass is going brown.

It does look very serene. Glad the rain didn't stop you!

That wren (or maybe there was more than one, who knows, they all look the same to me) kept landing on that deck railing and just staring at the water. I'd do that, too, if I lived there all the time.

Mama Zen -

We tend to stay on the screen porch, but once in a while, my sisters and I take some wine and snacks down there for happy hour.

Joe -

It's sooo green right now - I guess it's summer in the states - lots of afternoon showers. :)

Yes, always good to get home, no matter how awesome the place is we visit.

Have fun there again this weekend.
