- The
Palafox Market, in downtown Pensacola last Saturday, was full of fresh produce for sale, as well as other local goods: jewelry, crafts, jams, baked goods and such. I bought some fig preserves from a purveyor of preserves, jams and jellies. The jar contains whole figs, which reminds me of how my grandmother used to make them.
-This family band was singing
"Will the Circle Be Unbroken" when we walked by. I loved the name of their band, "String Farm." Perfect for a farmers' market, eh?
- That is historic
Christ Church in the background - founded in 1764 - and the internet says it is the oldest church building in Florida. I love the Spanish influence of the architecture. And I suppose if I had a cool red car like that, I'd drive it around on Saturday, too.
- A fourth thing - there are decorated pelicans everywhere in the downtown area. This intersection had a pelican tribute to each of the armed services. I liked the Coast Guard pelican the most, because he is wearing a life vest. The art project
"Pelicans in Paradise" is sponsored by the local newspaper.
Most of all - I loved having family time. It was truly lovely.

Beautiful--I've never been there but now I'm back down south will have to arrange a visit.
Sounds like a wonderful time. I LOVE the Pelicans being everywhere....what a charming idea!
What a neat post! Now I want to go there.
Ooooh.
Farmers markets, amazing buildings and pelicans. And a fun family visit too. Wonderful.
This sounds wonderful! Wish I could have been there!
I am just thinking, I have not been to Florida since the year 2000. Wow, now you know why I am Georgia Girl With An English Heart... I am either in Georgia or England, nowhere in between! :-)
Lovely shots - I like that church.
What a wonderful area...and what a wonderful time you had. I love the sound of that fig preserve...yum! :)
I love the pelican! We have wildly painted ducks here.
That's not your car? ;-)
Four not three
yet one on the end
The great time you had
with family and friends
That market sounds wonderful! And the pelicans are so fun. :)
The pelicans remind me of the painted cows that were part of the Cow Parade. I'd love to see more photos of the different pelicans.
Love the red car.
I love a good farmer's market! "String Farm" is indeed a great name. I wonder, if there were a real string farm, would it grow dangling down from trees, or would it be a vine? ;-)
