Welcoming, good things, rooting and grazing

- Thanksgiving day was a perfect weather day - bright, sunny and warm.  My cousin's home in Fayetteville, Georgia is so welcoming and I loved the new outdoor fireplace on the back porch.  There were 30 of us for dinner, including my sister and her husband from Virginia.  The three of us headed down to northern Florida in the late afternoon to be with our other sister and her family for the rest of the weekend.

- I had to snap a photo of this shop sign, in my sister's tiny village of Monticello, Florida, featuring "good things."  Click to enlarge.

- Young Monroe makes his dad happy by wearing the Bear Bryant-like hat his grandmother bought for him.  That's the University of Alabama vs. Auburn University game reflected in the window.  Fortunately, Alabama won.  :)

- And in a quiet moment on Saturday morning, a couple of young deer were grazing in the back.  Click to enlarge.  My sister and brother-in-law consider their property a deer sanctuary.  The deer on the right spotted me and at the same moment, they turned and ran.

The internet is spotty down there, so I did not get to visit blogs, but I will catch up.  I Promise.

I am so glad that you had such a wonderful (and beauty filled time). I am blown away by the size of your gatherings. Thirty people is more than my family can muster (even with the in-laws added in).

Where my mom used to live, she had deer visitors, and she was so tickled about them.

I wish I could enlarge the pictures, but they don't get any bigger after clicking on them. What does that sign say? Glad you had such a good time over this Holiday.....I LOVE that your sister in Florida considers her backyard a Deer Sanctuary. I just love Deer.....we have them here, too, in my garden below my house......Beautiful animals! And that hat is adorable!

Hilary -

My sister misses living in town, but we love to visit "the farm." It's a great place to just hang out and be. I sleep so well there. Cheers to you!

Elephant's Child -

Yes - 30 cousins. I got to sit at the "adult" table this year. :) We had so much fun talking about old times. We are the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of two sisters and one brother - all passed away now. I feel so fortunate that we are all close and love each other enough to want to get together.

Monroe and Sawyer's mom doesn't allow posting photos of them without permission on facebook. None of them even know I have a blog, so I don't dare post any photos of those kids, lest they show up in Google images! And they are so cute, I feel certain they would. :) If I can find a photo of him in that hat, I'll email it.

We all stop in our tracks, as if celebrities have come to visit.

That's so odd that the photos don't enlarge for you. Are you right clicking? The sign is for a pottery studio and has the tagline: "artisan pottery, unique gifts, good things"

And I forgot to say - my brother-in-law does go hunting, but for "anything that flies." He can't bring himself to shoot at the beautiful deer, but doesn't mind if his friends do. They just can't do it on their property.

We spent Thanksgiving at my daughter’s in Brentwood, TN , near Nashville, and we were 14 – the most for us. You were 30! That is quite a gathering and how much fun for all of you.

The fireplace on the porch looks very beautiful. 30 people for lunch sounds like a lot of work!!

We have deer in our garden too, what beautiful creatures they are, even though they eat all our trees and plants!
