How's that for a title? In my last post, I had a photo of a birthday card that had owl magnets on the front. (One of them is shown below.)

- Friend Leisa and I visited the
High Museum of Art, here in Atlanta, for an exhibit
"Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis" in 2013. It featured the lovely painting,
"The Girl with the Pearl Earring." So of course I had to get a magnet at the gift shop at the end of the tour. And the same museum had an exhibit of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera,
"Passion, Politics and Painting" in the same year - a banner year for the High, I think. Friend Barbara and I went to that one together and both of us bought a Frida magnet.
- I share my parents' love for hummingbirds and this magnet came from my late mom's fridge at the assisted living facility. It's carved from wood - I bought it in the North Carolina mountains, I think. I use it to hold up the nectar instructions. And I've always loved the man in the moon - I've had that crescent moon magnet for years and years.
- And really, "What if the
Hokey Pokey IS what it's all about?" I mean, really?

Ha ha thanks for the shout out, so I was right then?? That makes a change, and I'm glad I inspired this new post from you! And of course I expected your magnets to be tasteful and arty. Well apart from the last one maybe. Ha.
Yes - you were right! There are more magnets on the front - these are from the side of the fridge. And they are mostly arty magnets from exhibits. I didn't know until I looked up the Hokey Pokey song that it originated in the UK! We used to have great fun as kids, dancing to that at parties. :)
I love hummingbirds, too, and they're around here nearly year around! It has been nearly 25 years since I've been at the High, I need to make that trip again.
Yes, choosing your fridge magnets can be like arranging and making a form of art! I, too, choose mine wisely. Related to this, did you ever get too many (like when your kids are young and you just have a LOT of artwork to put up) and then you decide to get rid of your magnets and 're-scape' your fridge front [(...cause it is just too busy; art and things hanging EVERYWHERE; Goll..your fridge door can get (even) weighted down by what you CAN put on it! ;-)] But then, there are some that you find very hard to throw out...some that you 'have to' keep? :-) (I have had some...for YEARS.) :-)

I love your magnets! I am a fridge magnet person, too. I had to cull the herd recently because there got to be so many!
Hi Lynn - I have a few magnets sent from a friend in South Africa .. then it's blank - but that's me ... less clutter as pos - though you wouldn't say looking around here!
Lovely exhibitions you've been able to see .. I must get to a Kahlo one - at some stage .. I hope to get to Greenwich to see the Pepys exhibition ...

I think life would be wonderful if we had more hokey-pokey of the happy, fun kind in it because that's what it's all about - really!

We also have a few fridge magnets, although now as many as in years past. The one about the hokey pokey is a fun one and isn't that what life is really all about?

I love refrigerator magnets and don't like the new ones that go on the back of pictures. I like the kind that show.

We heard an owl hooting across the street in the neighbor's tall oak Sunday night, well actually Monday morning at 12:30, just after midnight, but actually in the wee small hours of the morning, or at least heading into that general timeframe. I guess the big ones will make a meal out of a housecat, yikes.
I loved that movie Selma Hayek did on Frida. Have not yet read the pearl earring girl book, or seen the movie. But I bet I will love them, classics I hear.
I always smile when I hear you mention the "High" museum of art, envisioning it as a place Cheech & Chong would enjoy. :)
No but, seriously, it's great you get to experience great art. We are lucky that way here in Austin too. Our Blanton Museum brings in luscious traveling shows, from the Big Guys like Van Gogh & Monet and many more, usually just 1 painting, but it's a real treat!!

Okay, since I left that above comment, like 3 weeks ago now.... :) :) I HAVE READ GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In large print from the library. Read it one evening and finished the next morning. LOVED it from the first to the last word. And of course, have been crash-coursing in Vermeer ever since. Have seen clips of the movie on YouTube in the past couple weeks, and look forward to seeing the entire film.
