Highland games, happy place and glorious

The 38th annual Stone Mountain Highland Games happened this weekend. A not altogether great weather day on Saturday. Sunday was still cold, but SUNNY. It was nice to see our friend the sun again.

- Entertainment of the non-bagpipe variety. The games in general make the park a happy place to be.

- The Virginia Military Institute pipe band near my Clan tent provided entertainment all weekend.

- 31 pipe bands played en masse providing a glorious assault to the ears. We follow the McTavish Clan onto the field for the Clan march. A lovely day.

Jewel -

It was fun to be with people from all over for the weekend. One man in the tent next to ours came from Michigan. The bagpipes are lovely.

Oh man, bagpipes are the worst sounding instrument in the world! :D My mother-in-law can't stand them either. Geez we have something in common! Ha (me and my m-i-l, I mean!)

Glad you got to see the sun. We did too but it's so cold here now.

I love the bagpipes, but wouldn't want them every day. They are great outdoors. It's good to have something in common with ones mother-in-law. :)

It is unseasonably cold here - it should be in the 60s, but is in the 30s and 40s.

Lynn, I linked the video differently. Hope it works for you this time.

Great shots, Lynn! They capture the festive atmosphere. I love the pipes and especially en masse like that. I'm sooo glad the sun made an appearance for you!

It was so nice. A little too cold, but I always love seeing these once-a-year friends.

The men in their kilts - how they love dressing up in them. And my partner for the day on Saturday ended up putting his jeans on under the kilt because he was so cold. :)

Snaggle -

It should be in the 60s and 70s right now - not freezing temps. We're just not ready. It was a great time. No - no caber tossing for me. :) I am more of a smoozer.

My partner in the tent Saturday morning was so cold in his kilt that he wondered why they were invented in the first place. He ended up putting his jeans on under it. You are short enough that you can check out under the kilts. :)

It was a lovely place to be. Wish you could have been there! Bagpipes do sound kind of melancholy. I do love them though.

That's pretty cool. I would love something like that. A woman who got married during the games last year came up to our tent and told us how thrilling it was.
