Carving, flourish and effort

- Peter, James and John at the Transfiguration of Jesus. Photo taken at the seminary on Monday. The carving is just outside the dining hall and is carved out of one piece of wood.

- Sitting in traffic next to a womens' clothing consignment shop and looking up just as a mannequin in a white frock is placed in the window with a flourish. Hands fluff up the sleeves.

- From writer friend Shelley's tagline on her email, "When something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing." Enrique Jardiel Poncela.

That quote is so true!

I'm not sure I really like the carving, but it is very clever.

Joe -

It is certainly artful carving, but the odd thing about it to me is that Peter, James and John all seem to look exactly alike. The carving is dedicated to a former professor and I wonder if they used his image? It does have a kind of odd three-headed look.

I always admire those who can carve and sculpt.

I like that Enrique quote, but I'm not sure I totally agree, as sometimes when I labor over writing it can seem stilted. My best writing just flows out as nature intended. Yet, I think one must go to some effort in order for others to read what has been written, so I'll interpret it that way.

Happy Day!

I agree - my writing is best when I just hammer it out. I do go back and check grammar though and always find a little something.

Shelley is a financial writer and makes her living doing that. I was sort of struck by the quote yesterday.

Me, too. It made me ponder...

The sculpture is certainly unique :)

Like all great quotes, the truth always shines, doesn't it?

Love the quote. I was just thinking about that idea when watching some dancing the other day, that when it looks effortless, you can be sure that so much effort went into the long hours of practice.

The carving kind of bothers me. I can't put my finger on it exactly.

But how wonderful that you glimpsed the mannequin's debut!

The truth always shines, indeed!

Meredith -

I wish the sculptor had used different models for the three images - odd that they look so alike.

That quote is so on the money. Sometimes it seems that a line/paragraph that can be read with ease, more often than not, took a lot of time and effort to make that line/paragraph be read with ease.

That's an interesting quote. Pardon me if I think the carving is a bit creepy!

I love that quote!
The carving isn't my style either. When I first looked at it, I thought it was some sort of three-headed monster :S

I agree. I like Meredith's analogy of watching dancing - if they make it look easy, then much practice must have gone into it.

Riot Kitty -

I actually think it is kind of creepy, too, but I studied it for so long that I decided it was blog-worthy. :)

Cookie -

Yes - the expressions seem to be off or something. lol - three-headed monster.

As usual, I love the wood-carving, especially because it's so tough to humans from wood- three from one must've been difficult!
Window dressing just for you- interesting detail you remember-
