- A Christmas tree trimming party at my parents' new place. Their little tree fit nicely in a corner of the living room. It is like seeing old friends, as one after the other the ornaments emerge from their box.
- Much discussion about which ornaments to use and which to leave off since there was limited space. I insist that the Atlanta Braves commemorative ornament depicting their 1995 World Series win had to go on the tree. Mom and Dad are devoted to the Braves.
- My sister lived in Washington, DC for so many years that she started a tradition of giving my parents the White House Christmas ornament every year. So they all went up. This year the ornament depicts a Grover Cleveland Christmas at the White House. It is said that the Clevelands loved to throw Christmas parties during his administrations.

And I didn't even know there was a White House ornament collection!

Yes - they are collectible, I guess. Mom loves them.
I'm looking forward to seeing my ornaments this weekend - they are like old friends!
It's nice that your Mom and Dad now have the spirit of Christmas surrounding them.
Oh, that is such a gorgeous little tree!
Ours has been up since Friday, letting the branches unfurl. Trimming starts tonight, amisdst nog and song.
One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen was the miniature Whitehouse display here at our LBJ museum. Minature yes, but a perfect sweet replica (a 20' long display,) in dollhouse form, right down to every detail, furniture, paintings, carpet, landscaping, etc and all dressed for Christmas. I wonder which musuem has that display now? have you ever seen it?
xo
so true about the ornaments--they are old friends, and become dearer every year they are taken out of the box. :)
When I was in the States I bought a small Graceland's Ornament and a pink cadillac. Far cooler than the White House of course! :D

It made mom so happy that we brought her Christmas things from the house - my sister even delayed going home until the next morning so we could help her decorate. It was fun.
I'll bet you have beautiful ornaments.
Lovely tree, and you're right about the old ornaments holding something special, some whisper of the magic of holidays past, perhaps :)
I'm glad you insisted on the Braves ornament!
The Clevelands' Christmas menu reminded me that no one made oyster stuffing for Thanksgiving dinner this year -- and now I'll have to find out why and what I need to do to get it back on the Christmas menu.
White House ornaments! Well, I learn something new every day.

Ooh - your tree is real? I love a live tree. Mom and Dad's is one of those silk ones that comes with lights already on it. But seems more practical for where they are living now. I love a live tree and the smell of it. Enjoy your nog and song.
I haven't seen the miniature White House - that would be cool. I got to go in the real one though.

I love seeing them year after year.

Absolutely cooler! I have never been to Graceland - it's on my list. I'll make sure I get those ornaments, too. :)

Oyster stuffing is so good. I imagine the Clevelands would have had that.
Yes - we have to have the Braves!

They are beautiful - my mom really treasures them.
Ooo, I wou LOVE to go to the real White House. And have the cooks make me something special. And sleep upon fine silks. And roam the secret passageways all night.
:)
Yes, a lovely Douglas Fir, 7' tall, less than $30!! My hubby, he's The Man -- brings home one of those gorgeous things each year.
Jannie -
Your hubs is the man! You need to post a photo of the decorated tree.
Sleeping in the White House - that would be entirely cool. I'd like to pick which china I would eat my chocolate pancakes on from the cabinets in the china room. And romp with the cute First Dog. And wander down to the West Wing and see if it was like it was on the show.
What a sylish tree they got, being so selective in ornaments.
Lucky folks!
I haven't taken my ornaments out in over a decade now- no room for a tree here.

I haven't either actually. I do have room for a tree, but I spend Christmas eve and day in Florida, so I just never manage to put up a tree. I do have a tiny one I sometimes put up in the pass through.
Mom and Dad's tree is a table top one that we have put on the floor in a corner. Talk about no room - it is literally the only corner in their new apartment it could have gone - there is no table top room at all.
