Another lovely tree, fun greeting and a treasure

- This is the tree that stretches up into the rotunda of Georgia's antebellum Governor's Mansion in Milledgeville, Georgia - I posted about my visit there here. My sister snapped this photo and then we snapped no more, although we both had our cameras. I liked that it included a number of hand made ornaments, such as ones that might have been included on a tree in the 1860s.

- Most fun Christmas card received so far - from my cousin's stepdaughter (does that make me her stepcousin?) and her husband.  They got married in Las Vegas this summer and posed at a slot machine.  Someone went in and added the Santa hats.  :)

- And this one from my aunt (my dad's older sister) felt as if I was sitting down to have a cup of tea with her.  I love her exquisite handwriting (soon to be a lost art) and how she always includes a little inspirational leaflet of some kind.  On a recent visit, a surprised Aunt Catherine opened the door dressed as if she was going out.  I love how she dresses up, even when planning to just be home alone all day.  And I love the thought of her sitting down to lovingly address her Christmas cards.  I always love sending a card to her, too, because I know she truly treasures it.

I hope many treasures are in store for you this weekend, my friends, and that it is happy and full of good things.

Some people completely change every aspect of their Christmas tree every year. They not only buy a different style of tree, they will add all not ornaments. The trees are lovely, but give me an old fashion tree any day. I especially love the kind with ornaments full of history. That is what one should find in a Governor's Mansion.

Clever step-cousin you have. That is indeed a unique card.

Lovely artistic handwriting is definitely a thing of the past. My own handwriting is so horrible there are times I cannot read it myself. Penmanship is no longer taught in school and that is a bad thing.

And now my comment.... :)

Your sister did graet for an on the fly by-guess-or-by-gosh tree photo. Would be lovely to see in person, I'm sure.

Ahhhhh, such a lovely Christmas card for the newlyweds.

I want to get my cards out soon.

I've got my sweatpants on today, pretty dressed-up for home, for me.

Now, to your Wednesday post...

xoxo
And WHOOPS!! I now see Kelly had signed into her g-mail, so let me sign out, and back in to mine. Chuckles...

There -- it's ME now. :) :)

"And I love the thought of her sitting down to lovingly address her Christmas cards." Thank you for writing about your Aunt, Lynn. Trying to visualize her dressed, sitting in her home.

oh, oh, oh... I have to do my Christmas cards this weekend. I made my own cards this year, per usual. I is highly irreverent and no one in my family will get it and they will all think there is something seriously wrong with me. I may need to do a blog Christmas card to all my readers. No, mine won't be like having a cup of tea, but you may smile. LOVE the tree. :)

I love eclectic tree ornaments - so much character and charm.

That slot machine card is not only appropriate, but really cute!

It's lovely to receive snail-mail, isn't it? I think this is becoming the only time of year when the mail is super active. Your aunt's handwriting sounds beautiful...

I love custom-made Christmas cards! I don't have many Christmas traditions in my own family, since it's 99% Jewish, but I do enjoy vicariously experiencing the traditions of others.

I enjoy learning from the older generation that your aunt is from. Handwriting and Christmas cards- things people no longer care to take the time over. I stood behind a sweet elderly lady at the post office yesterday. She had a large stack of Christmas cards bound with a rubber band to mail. I could tell they were important to her and that she put time and care into getting them ready.

Granny Annie -

I'm with you - I like the trees that have much loved ornaments with meaning or that the kids made. I'm so glad my mom got to have an apartment big enough for her medium sized tree at the assisted living facility. She has her ornaments my sister sent from Alaska, her White House ornaments and the one I got mom and dad depicting the Atlanta Braves World Series Champions from 1995.

She is a darling girl and I was surprised to get a card. I was invited to the wedding, but couldn't go to Vegas just then.

I know - my handwriting has changed over the years. Big, scrawly and messy.

Kelly -

Why Kelly Funster - you are second!

Jannie -

Hee hee - you are funny. I like Kelly's scary avatar there.

We just decided to enjoy the party and not take any pictures. Sometimes in our family there is too much focus on photographing the moment and not enjoying the moment.

I wear sweatpants or pajama pants and big tshirts at home. I admire that gentility of putting on jewelry and even dress shoes! These are people from a bygone era, I guess.

She is a lovely, gentle soul. She is a widow - all her kids live out of town and she doesn't have a TV (never has.) So I guess she reads and listens to the radio and serves tea to guests. She's lovely.

I'll bet your cards are great! Can't wait to see that blog one.

Talon -

Yes - the slot machine card is wonderful. And I do admire a handwritten note - a kind of lost art these days.

Sparkling Red -

But I'll bet you have wonderful Chanukah traditions. My late friend Harriet (second time I've mentioned her today) was Jewish and I always loved hearing about her family's traditions.

Leonora -

Ah - that's lovely. I hope her card recipients realize that and get in touch with her, too.

That is a huge tree! It would be neat to see ornaments from that long ago.

Very kewl looking tree.

I agree that penmanship is a lost art.

Mine had started out very bad (got punished during writing classes in elementary skool) and as I got older, it had unfortunately gotten worse.

Now, with my current affliction, I find it's easier to print everything. The only thing that I actually write now is my name.

Riot Kitty -

I was so impressed with the lack of worry in general from the organizers that people were walking around with glasses of red wine around some of that delicate stuff. There was one tray that was full of calling cards with the most beautiful handwriting on a tray off the foyer. I started to drop my business card in to see if anyone noticed. :)

FB -

I think so, too!

G -

My penmanship used to be gorgeous, but it's morphed into something else over the years. :) I can imagine it's easier for you to type also.

Mama Zen -

I think so, too.

Very nicely decorated n large tree! Someday I'll have another one. The poor ornaments have been in the closet over a decade- many are homemade, the best kind!
I like those photo cards- Only got one so far with my 1 year old great-Nephew I've never met. Cute couple. I suppose some folks go to Vegas for the holiday...
I may put a post I did about my Aunt up soon. My parents siblings are all so special, n have great penmanship too! Mine is so sloppy...
I've been a lazy picture taker myself lately... Have some good adventures this week-end, Lynn!

I LOVE that you shared Christmas cards! That would be a great meme!

Thanks Lynn and God Bless!

John

What an awesome tree--wouldn't it be cool to know the stories behind the hand-made Ornaments!!!

Lynn I tried to comment on your post on Friday and couldn't. That tree is amazing. I feel I need to change ours soon, we've had the same decorations on it for years and years and they look a bit tired now.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
