Armload of basil, making pesto and shining

- Printing client, friend and neighbor Tori gave me this armload of basil from her garden when I took her proof by her home on Tuesday. I made a little caprese salad with a little of it the next evening. So beautiful and it lasts so nicely if put in water like this and placed in the refrigerator.

- But it was beginning to look a little wilty by Thursday a.m., so I made this pesto using the basil, pine nuts, parmesan cheese, garlic, sea salt and olive oil before leaving for work. I like how it looks in my mother's pretty bowl from the 1950s. It will go in some salad tonight - Ina Garten's Pasta, Pesto and Peas. Yum.

- On a completely unrelated note, but a definite good thing - loving the captions niece Abby applies to family and friend photo "albums" she posts on facebook. The latest: Shining like lighters in the dark in the middle of a rock show.... She shines brightly herself.

As do all of you. I hope you have a bright and shining weekend, my friends.

Love that caption...I remember those early concerts (Styx, Billy Squier, Bon Jovi) wearing Jordache jeans and swaying to the music holding my lighter. :)

Btw, there's nothing like fresh basil...except fresh mint leaves (for mojitos!). lol

I agree w/ FB you shine too, Chica! Have a great weekend!!

Abby is a poet. I love it when people aren't ashamed to be lyrical in public.

LOVE pesto. Especially homemade. This is something I usually do at the end of the summer with all my bumper basil. LOVE clever captions.

Jeff -

Thank you. And I am sure enjoying that travelogue of yours.

FB -

So do you, FB!

I haven't eaten it yet - it's all sealed up in tupperware, but I'm putting it in a salad tonight or tomorrow.

I hope there's fun, but if there isn't, I'll make it fun. :)

That's exactly where my mind went, too. Swaying with the boyfriend's lighter.

My mom had mint to just spring up in their yard - isn't that odd? I love a mojito, too.

So do you, Ily!

She's a remarkable young lady. And one of her former album captions was "Body heat and boiled peanuts" - interesting. :)

I need to plant basil so that I can do that and not have to depend upon the kindness of others. :)

Cloudia -

Come on over - you would be most welcome!

Blue Bunny -

I might just do that. My baby niece's favorite color is blue - she loves blueberries and the blue blocks.

Riot Kitty -

Being allergic to garlic would be the worst.

Snaggle -

You've held up a lighter I'll bet. Me, too. :)

Phil -

Hello there. Yes - she is quite a gal.

Tori is short for Victoria. That's a neat shortening of it, I think. I am having a good weekend and hope you are, too. Looks as if you were just here.

My weekend was great. Thanks for wishing me a good one. It worked.

How long can you keep pesto? I read somewhere that homemade lasts only a few days and store pesto, once opened, has to be discarded in two weeks. Can that be right? We can't eat that much pesto. Yours sure looks yummy.

Granny Annie -

I guess it's like anything - it goes bad after a few days. It freezes beautifully though!

I'm glad my weekend wish worked well for you. :)
