Karin on the bus, feathers in hair and the walk

- Looking over in traffic during the commute yesterday and seeing my friend Karin Slaughter's face on the side of the MARTA bus. I met her about 12 years ago when she was running a sign shop and I purchased stadium banners from her for the corporation I worked for then. She soon left the sign biz behind and has just published her 12th book, "Fallen." If you like crime fiction, you'll love her books, beginning with the very first one, "Blindsighted."

- Feather extensions in hair must be a new trend and I'm just learning about it. Niece Rebecca had some feathers cascading from her hair when I saw her July 4 weekend. The director of my volunteer organization had a pink feather woven into her gloriously red and orange hair last week. And super blogger Heather Armstrong (@dooce) wrote about her daughter's feather extension here. I think it's cool, but I'm not doing that in case anyone wonders - it's just that it is suddenly a trend that appeared to me in threes.

- Going for my first walk in a week and running into a friend on the path, a little girl selling lemonade in a stand (mother watching close by) and listening to tunes on the iPod. Life is good.

I haven't seen any feather extensions, but I love the idea!

It is so exciting to know a celebrity. I will be happy to find her books.

Wow, maybe I can sell chicken feathers for people's hair. I could adorn myself with feathers too.

Your last paragraph paints a lovely picture of serenity.

I think it is cool to see your friends picture on the side of a bus. So, sex in the city. Stay cool on those walks, my friend. The heat is ON.

Lynn~ My daughter came home last night with red feathers in her hair, on the side (her hair is a deep, rick chocolate brown...)
:-) I touched it (O.K., the 'Mom' in me came out) hoping that she didn't dye this portion of her hair and she assured me it wasn't; it was a clip higher up.

I think I'll pass on the feather!

FB -

I think you could pull that off, with your long hair.

Granny Annie -

It is exciting - I always get a shout out from the podium when I go to her book signings in Atlanta.

lol! Chicken feathers - no one would probably know the difference! If you do that, post a picture.

It was a lovely and serene walk.

I loved that show - Sex and the City - I hadn't thought of that. I did email her that photo I posted though.

It was just 90 here yesterday, so not too bad during my walk. I wasn't expecting the lemonade girl, otherwise I'd have had some money.

So it was clipped in? I'll bet it's pretty.

Rebecca's feathers were woven in. She has blondish hair and the feathers were speckled and sand colored. Very cool and she had some feather earrings, too.

Me, too. :)

My younger daughter has had a few feathers in her hair recently, plus a great many other things too! :D

Aw, lemonade stands are the best! I haven't seen one in a few years, but I always stop for a cup when the opportunity arises.

I love it when folks I meet get some recognition, but your friend seems to be getting a lot. I'll look for her first book when I go to Borders (before they close).

Feather extensions? Wait 'til my daughter hears about this!

sounds good indeed, life and lemonade that is.

Kelly got a couple blue feathers in her hair last year, clip-ons. So cute!

My face was on a bus once, but in a Wanted poster. :)

Now I want lemonade!

See - that is a trend that is sweeping around the world and I am just finding out about it.

Me, too. :)

I need to stick a dollar in my pocket for the next time I see her.

I can't believe all the Borders are closing - I was sad when the one near my office closed. Karin's books are a bit violent at times, but she is such a great writer that I can overlook that. :)

Jannie -

Good to see you - but not on a wanted poster. :) I can just see Kel with those feathers in her hair.

Me, too. :)

Thanks for the book referral- sounds good. Cool you know the author! Good for her!
Feathers in hair always make me think of Flower Chidren in the '70s!
Did you get lemonade? I heard of one in Wash DC got closed down for not having a vendors permit! Here a permit costs $170 now!

I always sold kool-aid for 10 cents as a kid, until we ran out of sugar to make it!
