Volunteers, memories and beautiful berries

- That pot on the left is affectionately known to me as my "weedy pot." Every year I just let it be and see what comes up and something always does. This is the second year I've grown a maple tree and a pine seedling. I pulled them out last spring and they just came back again. For someone with no green thumb, I somehow managed to produce two trees. Maybe I'll see if there's some regular ground they can go in somewhere at some point.

- This is how weedy pot looked last January during the week we Atlantans called "Snowpocalypse." :) It's hard to believe six months have already gone by.

- And just curious, this grows in springtime in the woods behind my place. Does anyone know what it is?* http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifThe birds love the berries and I think they are beautiful.

*Update - louvregirl looked it up and it is a plant with the common name: leatherleaf mahonia, and the botanical name: Mahonia bealei

Thanks, lg!

It's finally Friday and I'm looking forward to the weekend. I hope you are, too.

I don't know anything about berries, so I can't help you. They are beautiful. Your Snowpocalypse shot is GREAT. I remember how it was up here in MD.

The blue berries look beautiful but I, too, have no idea what that plant is called.

Weedy Pot works like magic. I want one of those!! :)

Happy Friday, chica! xo

Perhaps if I had a "weedy pot" I could finally manage to grow something.

Don't know what the berries are but I would advise you NOT to eat them:)

Lynn~ i really like this post. The snow shot and summer shot of your 'weedy pot' are a great contrast. I don't know what those big purplish looking grapey things are but they are beautiful. Also glad that they are not poisonous; you know how some things like that that look good, are...

I was confined from Monday through Thursday at home over all that snow that made the city of Atlanta come to a screeching halt. And I kind of liked it. Movies, internet, that kind of thing. :)

Ily -

Just sit out a pot with soil in it and see what happens. It works. Apparently.

Granny Annie -

They look good enough to eat, but I wouldn't. :)

lg -

Drum roll, indeed! Thanks, lg! I updated to let everyone know. And I loved how that picture did match mine. :)

Love the weedy pot. I find I'm great when it comes to growing weeds, but if I attempt anything else I fail every time!

Have a great weekend!

I am looking forward to my weekend yes, thanks.

Maybe fireworks Sat. night at the Hill Country Galleria mall. Been so dry no place else seems to be putting on a show.

But enough of that.

How funny mahonia -- Mahone Bay being the place in Canada we have that house. great renters now. Speaking of 6 months -- not one call from the cops in Mahone Bay since the new tenants. Well, actually 9 months now, I think. Previous ones did seem to get into lots of brawls. Upstairs / downstairs peeps not getting along at all.

And yes, I do believe, real ground shall one day accept your two trees, and great novels of epic and sweet proportion will hence be written about you and those trees!! I feel it in my bones.

xoxoxo

Actually, I find it bothersome when I get weeds in my pot. Oh, are we talking about something else?

Those trees really want to live!
The weeds that come up in my undone pots on the deck are always CocksComb, Marsh grass, bog Moss, n New York Asters. I have alot of pots, so usually leave one of each.
If only the plants I pay for could reproduce like that!

Joe -

Just stick a pot outside and see what comes up. :) This one used to have geraniums in it.

Jannie -

I'm glad to hear those renters in Canada are behaving! :)

And if someone writes a book about that, they've run out of stuff to write about. Hehe.

Mama Zen -

Ha! Yeah - but I could see someone making that connection. Hehe.
