Luring, happy mail and caffeine

- Mr C's tries to lure the kids in for an event that never really took off this past weekend. The local news frantically reported that the spring break festival of students from colleges and universities known as 'Freaknik' was planning a return to Atlanta in 2010, but it seems to have been much ado about nothing.

- Discovering a batch of old Valentine and birthday cards and smiling at each one. It is lovely to get happy mail like this and especially to savor the dear handwriting.

- Three too quiet co-workers with the Monday morning blues try to think what would make things better. One gets the idea of a Starbucks run, another offers to treat and another offers to go. It was nice to be out again in the early morning to fetch a frappuccino, mocha latte and regular latte.

I'm pretty sure that I live at Freaknik Headquarters!

And, I'll have a latte, please.

Mama Zen -

You are funny. :) I used to see news reports of the crowds of revelers in our midtown area. Think Panama City Beach during Spring Break. The city stopped issuing a permit for it because it clogged up the streets and ruined the weekend for the people in that area. It was supposed to be moved to other areas of town this past weekend, but apparently never really materialized. After all the news reports on it, there was no mention on the Saturday evening news. The kids should have gone to Mr C's. :)

I love a latte - heavy on the espresso.

I always wanted to participate but I never wanted to make the coffee run. My co-workers didn't like that about me. But now I'm retired and what they like or don't like doesn't matter. Nanny, nanny, poo, poo:)

Any excuse to get out of the office and outdoors and I was on it - lol!

I got a report from my father on Saturday night that the freaknik party had moved to parts of Clayton County, including in their neighborhood, sadly, where there was a party cranking up at 10 p.m. with a heavy-duty sound system and loudspeakers set up, on which one of the hosts broadcasted his warning to the neighbors: that he had a good friend on the police force and assurances of no interruptions.

Dad was considering ringing them up anyhow, but it's really not his style to call the police, and I haven't talked to my parents since, so I don't know what happened.

I think your office sounds so nice, and the staff seem to really get along like a team, a priceless thing in any venture -- and almost impossible to manufacture.

Could you bring me back a breve caramel machiato, please? ;)

I'll take one of their glazed donuts please! Either the vanilla or chocolate will do just fine.

Granny Annie -

How lovely to be retired!

I am the first one to volunteer to run out for things - kindred spirits. :)

Why do people have to play music loud during the night? So rude. It probably would have zapped more energy from your dad than it is worth to call the police.

I do have a nice workplace - we do work as a team. I have a big job for a lighting company that has visuals that must be inserted into a pocket folder - due this afternoon. We are shorthanded so we are all pitching in to do it. (That's why I left my ugly old Crocs here at work.) :)

A machiato - yum.

Jannie -

I remember seeing a photo of one of them standing up! xo

You made me laugh out loud! I'll bet your souflay was a hit. :) xo

I always got one from mom and dad - things have changed, so it is touching to see them.

I'd totally go to Freaknik HQ! I have to say Starbucks is good for the blues :)

I favor the independent coffee houses more, but Starbucks is the closest to work. I'm a regular and get the wave now. :)

Guess that drinking festival is trying to drum up more local business everywhere!
Last time I ran into an unexpected 20 year ild postcard from one of my Mother's many trips I cried- Just seeing her handwriting tears me up. this week would've been her 79th B-day- she's been gone ten years already!
No coffee for me- I'd not miss the head-ache, but getting out n smelling it is good-

Losing a parent is a terrible thing and it is difficult to imagine until it has happened to us. But having items with their handwriting on it is like a little gift to look at again and again.

I never drink coffee when out dining,
if I must drive on high way for at least 45 minutes, then I do some coffee at home so that I don't feel sleepy while driving...
