New York, North Carolina and south Georgia

Tales from the last three weekends...

- She is sorting out two languages (English and Turkish) in her head, so this busy 16-month-old just says a few words right now, most notably "hi" and picking up the pronunciation of "hey" in two syllables from her southern aunt. Here in Central Park, in New York City, she shows us just how a stroller should be pushed. And later, from said stroller, she looks up at the photo below and calls out, "Woof woof!"

From the Elliott Erwitt exhibition at the International Center of Photography, New York City.

- Early one morning at my sister's mountain cottage, in Hayesville, North Carolina, I assemble breakfast at the kitchen counter and look up to see a deer watching me with interest outside this window. We make eye contact and neither of us move. The deer's head turns to look at something in the river and I edge to the left to pick up my camera. A second deer, much smaller, stands behind, catches my movement and in the blink of an eye, they vanish.

- And in Thomasville, Georgia last weekend, as I set up the folding table and Pollyanna board game, my mother exclaims, "I'm so glad you girls like to play games!" We are always happy to play with her and to always be thought of as her "girls."

I'm staying home this weekend, y'all! Hope yours is good!

What a cute shot of the little girl with the stroller! I also liked how you stepped outside to show the deer's vantage point. It looks peaceful there, Lynn. It is going to be a hot one this weekend! Have a lovely one though!!!!

I think these two were walking down to the river to drink and caught sight of an unexpected human. No one else was around that weekend.

Actually - I took that photo to email my sister to show how the new stain on the house looks. :) But it seemed to go with the story. Yes - another few days of degrees in the 90s here, too. Sigh.

Thank you - that is my great niece Mina - an enchanting little girl, who was itching to get out of that stroller.

Any mention of North Carolina always reminds me of Charles Kuralt.

The deer must have thought here's someone who's relatively new.

Looking into the eyes of a deer is one happy connection.

The shadows make for a welcome pattern.

Awww! She's adorable! And love that exhibit shot - how cool is that?

Deer are so flighty, aren't they? But so beautiful - especially in motion.

Have a lovely weekend!

That is so cute! See what she says to a picture of a kitty. :)

What a deer post. ;)

I've only seen moose up close in NH...but never a deer.

Cute photo from NYC. Love the look on the little pup's face...and gotta love those other pair of "boots!" lol

NC sounds beautiful. I really need to take another road trip. Glad you had fun with the little one.

Very kewl indeed.

Reminds me of both of my children when they were that age (yes, I am dating myself) doing that exact same thing with their strollers.

What a lovely post. You always make me want to make more of each day I have on this planet you know? Sometimes I think I miss the joy in everyday life.

Thanks, and have a wonderful weekend, I'm going to try to do just that myself now. :)

O.K. Lynn! I just noticed the 'other' pair of legs in the B&W photo! It took me awhile; P.S. If you'd like recheck my blog post for Sat., I added a 'my first' movie and some more pics later the same day :-) Hope you weekend is going swimmingly!

For every deer you see there is always one you don't see standing guard. Also every time one deer crosses the road in front of you, you better stop because three more are probably right behind it.

Home has never meant more to me than it does these days. Traveling to and from medical appointments all week makes our weekends at home magnificent -- even though I have to work all weekend getting things ready to go again on Monday.

Good cute factor hanging out with the Little Ones. They learn so fast n easily at that point! Love that dog photo too- must be great Dane feet on the left I think.
Of course, deer aren't known for their posing skills- sorry they didn't co-operate!
Very pretty shadow pic!
Me n My sis used to play "Life" alot, n "Sorry." Then there were cards! Not familiar with PollyAnna- Sounds like a pleasant way to visit with Mom.

Enjoy your quiet week-end, n hope you get good rest too.

North Carolina is a beautiful state - I like that you have encountered Charles Kuralt.

Deer are beautiful and run very fast - apparently. :)

Riot Kitty -

She'd probably say "roarrr" - she's into the lion sound right now.

Ileana -

We had a lovely time at that exhibit in New York - I had never heard of Elliott Erwitt before.

Jannie -

You are a dear, too! I'm glad you liked all the photos. :)

Thank you!

She was itching to get out of that stroller and had a little fit when she had to get back in. :)

Joe -

That means so much to me that you write that - that's my goal - to make the most of each day.

Sparkling Red -

That cottage is peaceful - it sits right by the river and I love to summon up that feeling and sound when I am stressed.

Ellis -

I would go back again. :)

lg -

I will go back and check - I haven't been on the blogs much this weekend. I'll check it out today though.

Yes - it takes being away from home a lot to appreciate being in it when you're there. I agree.

Pollyanna is a type of Parcheesi - I see those games on ebay now and then, but they are always very expensive. It's a game that my grandmother loved and so my mom loves it, too.
