- This Emblem Fruit Bowl will have an honored place in my home. It is from the Rwanda "Path to Peace" project and is a one of a kind basket woven by survivors of the Rwandan genocide. Lovely Tami of the Running with Tweezers blog had one of the baskets to give away and I was fortunate enough to be the winner!
- Tami is an Atlanta-based food stylist and a prolific home cook. Her blog is full of recipes, stories and "tales from the frontlines of food." I stumbled upon her blog last year when she was writing about stepping up to the challenge of eating for one week on only $30. A fascinating project that was a personal attempt to focus on hunger issues in our country by sticking to a budget of only $30 herself that week.
- So I wasn't surprised when she showcased the Path to Peace baskets on her blog. Focused on "trade, not aid" the sale of the baskets puts real, sustainable income into the hands of the weavers and their families. And rather than just letting it sit on a shelf, I look forward to using it for fruit or bread on my dinner table.

Congrats! It's truly miraculous how beautiful things can come out of horrific circumstances.

So true. And I think it is kind of neat the baskets are sold at Macy's, of all places.
That is beautiful, and well done for winning! So they sell them in Macy's?
Joe -
I think so, too. Yes - all I had to do to win was comment and I was randomly selected.
They do sell them at Macy's. Here's a link: http://www.macys.com/campaign/rwanda/index.jsp
That basket is gorgeous, and I'm glad you won! Sometimes random works out after all :)
I'll have to check out her blog -- although I'm wondering if I have room for one more foodie blog on the list ;)
I definitely have to check out the eating for $30 posts. I'm afraid in the wintertime you'd have to resort to cheapy processed food, although in summer we found that buying direct from local farmers and growing our own really saved us money. (I still think we spent more than 30 a week, tho.)

Her account of the eating for $30 is fascinating and she found lots of creative ways to cook during that time. No processed food from what I could see. And she figured in the monetary value to foods she already had in her pantry.
I know - I have lots of foodie blogs, too. :)
That's a great bowl. I love art.

I do, too. I am so lucky that I won it.
Lynn....?
Did you remove my comment?
Very cool bowl! A feast for the eyes to ponder. How lucky to win it.
Interesting food blog to check out next Day Off- I actually have an Atlanian caterer blog friend who's originally from my town Who sends me the best bread. My food budget is always less than that- but don't count the cupbaord supplies-
I bet that basket is great for keeping fruit because of the design to circulate air around it-
G-man -
Yup.

Well now I want to know where the good bread is in Atlanta. :) And I love the thought of the design of the basket being conducive to circulation for fruit.
