Tardy to the party, wisdom and pets to work

- Mr C's is only slightly tardy to the resolution party on a day when the temperature finally rose above the freezing mark and we were rewarded with a lovely blue sky.

- This from Replacements.com (a china, crystal, silver replacement piece service): "If you are already feeling the stress of trying to live up to self-imposed and onerous New Year's resolutions, obviously set while under duress, as a service we offer the words of Ben Franklin to provide a less exacting (but still noble) road map for the year ahead - "Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better person." There, a New Year's resolution with appropriate piety, yet room for living."

- Replacements is based in Greensboro, North Carolina and sounds like a wonderful place to work. They have a policy of allowing employees to bring their pets to work - usually dogs, and there is a story on the online newsletter each month about a "Featured Pet (and Pet Owner!)" I do not think I would get anything done from all the head petting I would be doing. :) Perhaps it is like a bakery and you just get used to it.

As someone who is terrified of dogs (I know I'm a wuz) I don't think that would be an ideal place for me to work.

Plus I'm allergic to cats. :D I may be ok if everyone bought in a parrot to work. That could lead to some interesting conversations too.

Incredible that dogs would be allowed at a replacements place! Mine would break everything! I tried bringing my dog to work - he truly hated it. I experimented one day and a friend (thankfully) was the first victim. Rex (the 26 pound standard dachshund) went ballistic. Didn't BITE, but acted like he would. Gosh darn. Loved your post and picture.

Consider it resolved, Mr. C!

Joe -

Now that would be interesting - a workplace in which you could bring parrots to work. :) I don't think you are a wuz. Some people relate better to animals than others.

Bubbie -

I'm guessing there are guidelines or criteria to be met for the dog. Thank you for stopping by. :)

Meatloaf sounds pretty good right now, I think.

It's never too late to make a resolution - especially ones regarding meatloaf and trivia!

That is funny about dogs at the china place. I know Charlie would be like a bull in a china shop - her tail wagging alone would take out everything within a ten foot radius!

If you go back and read the archived Featured Pet, there are some pretty rambunctious dogs that go to work with their owners. They must have a rule about dogs in the warehouse area.

I agree, pets sound distracting. But they can be comforting too. Although, I am allergic to cats :(
That is a great Ben Franklin quote :)

Oddly - I am allergic to cats, too. But some more than others. I took shots for the allergy. Having pets around is SO comforting.

I liked that quote, too, and the message Replacements put with it. :)

Can't promise the meatloaf, being vegetarian and all, but I love trivia.

Do you ever eat things that simulate meat, such as seitan? When I was a vegetarian, I resisted things like that. Later I went over to the dark side and started eating meat again. :)

Mmm... meatloaf, that would be good to make during this cold snap. Classic comfort food. For tonight I'm resorting to chicken pot pie. :)

I think it's wonderful a company encourages pets at work! I suppose it depends upon the pet, and the pet's training pedigree and personality.

Although, since I work at home, I often wish Booty weren't with me. He's oblivious to my need to concentrate, will push his jaw against the screen to get my attention, meow repeatedly, and will even walk right across the keyboard if I'm not responding quickly enough.

Leo is more respectful. He will just hunch at the window behind the computer and stare at me until I look up. You could take such a well-behaved kitty gentleman to work. But not the bratty boy. ;)

Your pets have such great personalities. I don't imagine cats do so well at being taken to work as dogs do. Sophie would much rather be home and watching the house. :)

Pets at work are a welcome proposition, anyday.

Like you said I doubt if any work will be done with so many soulful eyes warranting much head petting :-)

Anil -

It has been a while since you were here - welcome back.

My thoughts on that exactly - soulful eyes. So sweet.

Sounds like a really really great company to work for. I'd bring my cat, tho he probably wouldn't dig it as much as the dogs would. :)

Jannie and Blue Bunny -

How about bringing Blue Bunny to work? Oh right - he is there with you now. Right. xoxoxoxo

You should go in to ask Mr C if the cold slowed down his business. I'd wait to redo the sign too-
Not having too much neighborly peace today- I have to work on that one.
We could never bring pets to work, cause the products wouldn't get out the door without muffins getting hairy n eaten!

That's true, animals are banned at food producing businesses, right? I was in a chocolate shop one day and the owner had her dog with her and I wondered if that was a no no.
