Pottery bird, cozy and big hit

- This Zen-like pottery bird from my most favorite potter, "In the Stix" pottery. I've had this for some time now and finally put some flowers in it, as was intended, because I was having friends over.

- Book club friends crowded into my cozy living room and putting all worries aside about not having enough room. It was fun to discuss the Anne Tyler book of our choice and then get on to what we will read next.

- This fruit dip recipe, given to me by a co-worker, was a big hit and went well with strawberries and apple slices. It tasted like cheesecake:

Fruit Dip:

1 8-oz package of cream cheese, room temperature
3/4 cup of light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 container of vanilla flavored yogurt (more or less to taste)

Cream the cheese first until it is a light and smooth consistency. Add brown sugar and mix well. Add vanilla extract and yogurt until well blended.

Refrigerate leftovers.

Um! I will totally make that fruit dip, Kelly will be delighted. I might serve it in my zen-like pottery bird!

I don't really have a pottery bird, as you may already have guessed. I was just funning. But I do have a lovely hollow ceramic bust in the likeness of Anne Tyler I could serve it in!

How fun to be in a book club. I've never read Anne Tyler before *hangs head* but I really want to. She is one of those authors that has lived legendary status.

Jannie -

I think y'all will like the dip. :) By the way - did you look at the link to the pottery? She has a bird serving bowl. :) You funster, you! xoxo

Jewel -

None of us universally loved the books. They seemed to set off various emotions in everyone. I read "The Amateur Marriage" - or I should say - am reading. I haven't finished it yet.

You have such an eye for the unique and the unusual. The bird is so whimiscal and so neat. You should put fresh flowers in there for yourself, too ;)

How funny - I'm re-reading one of Anne Tyler's books right now - "The Amateur Marriage". I love her stuff. She really knows how to write characters that are interesting for their very ordinary-ness. I don't think that's a word, is it? lol!

Thank you for the dip recipe! Sounds delicious!

Love the pottery. It's unique and beautiful and soooo serene, especially with the flowers in. You're right that it is Zen. :) (And I agree with Talon, get some flowers for Lynn once in a while.)

That fruit dip sounds wondrous. But then, anything that tastes like cheesecake goes on my list. ;)

I suppose you have to read books to be in a book club? :D

Sorry for the LOL

I was reading your post and it hit me funny

The birds a pot
your friends plopped
and the dip did not

sounded like a fun time I would have had to have my book on a Ipod.

Talon -

My sister got it for me for Christmas - purchased in August when In the Stix was at the Georgia Mountain Fair. She reminded me that I couldn't take my eyes off of it. She is the best.

That is the very one I am reading - The Amateur Marriage. I had to put it down due to the marital conflict, but will take it up again here and there.

Meredith -

If you make the dip, let me know what you think. Simple, but good.

I do only buy flowers when someone is visiting, but you and Talon are right - I should do that more often. I do love them.

lg -

Let me know if you make it.

Riot Kitty -

My globe trotting friend - thank you.

Ily -

I want to read Digging to America - another AT book that seemed to be universally liked last night.

Thank you for adding me to your blogroll - I am flattered. I love your blog, Chica.

Joe -

I'll bet you would have great insights to the books read. :)

I wish you could have been there to share this poem. :)

I bought a $2 flat of annuals n potted them for the sole purpose of picking them for the house- it makes them keep flowering. Pretty inexpensive- just an idea for your plant containers-
